Sitka Counseling

Sitka Counseling Our primary purpose is to prevent and reduce the harmful effects of mental illness and substance use in the lives of youth, adults, and families.

We do this by providing caring, professional, therapeutic, and preventative services. Sitka Counseling prevents and reduces the harmful effects of mental illness and substance abuse in the lives of youth, adults, and families. We provide caring, professional, therapeutic, and preventative services. We are a 501c3 non-profit corporation.

We serve the geographical area encompassing Sitka, Baranof Island, and Yakutat. We also accept referrals from across the State of Alaska for the adult residential program, Aurora’s Watch.

Behavioral health issues affect citizens in all socio-economic and racial backgrounds, but tend to produce more devastating effects in the lives of individuals on the lower socio-economic end of the spectrum and in the racial minority. Historically, the majority of our service population consists of low-income and/or minority residents who encounter significant barriers to treatment.

We don’t claim any religious affiliation. We serve those of all faiths, as well as agnostics. We endeavor to promote a spiritual component in recovery of the individual’s own choosing and encourage each individual to explore their own spiritual beliefs as a part of our holistic approach to treatment and recovery.

Calricaraq Training

February 23–25, members of the HOPE Coalition had the honor of participating in Calricaraq, a three-day training developed by the Yup’ik community to address historical trauma and support healing and healthy living.

The training was facilitated by Rose Domnick and Katrina Domnick, with guidance from Elder Evelyn Day and Danika Baile. Through stories, teachings, and reflections rooted in Yup’ik values, they created a safe and meaningful space for learning and connection.

We extend our deep gratitude to the Yup’ik community for sharing Calricaraq and the generations of wisdom it represents. We are also thankful to the The Alliance and Recover Alaska for supporting our participation and making it possible for people from across the state to gather.

Sixty-five participants came together in a space grounded in respect, reflection, and community. It was especially meaningful to connect with the Elders. Experiences like this strengthen prevention efforts in Sitka and across Alaska by honoring culture, healing, and connection.

Boys learn what it means to be a man by watching the men around them. While society often teaches boys and men that anger, violence, and control are acceptable, there is another way forward—one rooted in authenticity, emotional expression, vulnerability, and wholeness. What are YOU showing the next generation it means to be a káa (man)? Visit sitkapathways.org/male-allies to share what you’re modeling for the next generation and be entered into a drawing for a $25 gift card for Sea Mart. Brought to you by the Pathways to a Safer Sitka Coalition.
