Thank you, Dr George Mandelaris, for an intense, most informative course on a , NOT New..but VERY innovative technique, SFOT....your contributions for the continual advancement of our profession are greatly appreciated!
SFOT stands for Surgically assisted Orthodontic Therapy. It is a surgical technique which augments both hard and soft tissue prior to orthodontics therapy. The primary goal is to increase the thickness of the bone and tissue, permanently, so that the periodontium remains in good health, minimizing post -ortho complications such as recession and relapse. SFOT is particularly beneficial for adults who would like to expedite their treatment, as it allows teeth to move very fast, and who exhibit crowding and need jaw expansion. It decreases the need for teeth to be extracted preceding ortho.
