Antibiotics are among the most commonly prescribed medications in modern medicine, but they aren’t without side effects 💊
The term anti-biotic translates to anti-life. Ironic, because antibiotics CAN be life saving when actually needed. But the problem is, these are prescribed unnecessarily, very commonly, for a wide variety of issues that aren’t bacterial.
Antibiotics kill off your good gut bacteria along with the bad. This causes an overgrowth of bad bacteria and yeast. It can also set the terrain for parasite and fungal growth, alongside causing leaky gut.
80% of our immune system resides in the gut, so this system is ultimately negatively impacted as well.
Children who take multiple rounds of antibiotics are more likely to catch frequent colds and have a variety of allergy, autoimmune, gut & skin related issues in adulthood.
It takes the body a long time to recover from antibiotics, and the use of probiotics alongside supports like aloe, bone broth, fermented foods, butyrate, glutamine, fiber and more are usually necessary to help rebuild the microbiome.
We always suggest natural therapies first, but only when appropriate. To avoid the issue of over-prescribing unnecessarily, simply confirm a positive bacteria test before taking antibiotics. So many times providers are just guessing, and they’re not even necessary!
