Some highlights from October at Smyrna Village Memory Care Community.

So many interactions happen outside of our scheduled activities. One of our guys likes to follow me (Nataly) around and ask what I’m doing. I try to get him involved when I can, but when I can’t, I just explained it to him. The other day, he asked me if he could pay for his room for one more night, and I told him he could stay as long as he likes. He said he’d like to stay for at least a few more nights because he likes it here. That made my day. 💕

When we are able, something as simple as talking to a loved one who is living with dementia about what we are doing in the moment can go such a long way in helping them to feel included (and loved).

Even on the difficult days, our loved one's essence is still intact. Leaning into this truth, especially on the hard days may help provide some reassurance and a small bit of ease.
