There is something simple and good about walking together.

The Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community is back, and Friendship House will be there again this year. Last year, our community showed up in a big way. This year, we get to do it again.

If you have walked before, we hope you will join us again. If you have never joined, this is an easy place to start. One morning. So many reasons we can share. Impact that lasts.

We would love to see you there.

Stay off the Roads and Stay Safe

*Update - The State of Emergency was terminated on Tuesday, February 24, 2026, at 5:00 p.m.

🚨State of Emergency Notice🚨

A State of Emergency is in effect as of 12:00 p.m. today, Sunday, February 22, 2026.

With the statewide Blizzard Warning issued by the National Weather Service, please prioritize safety and take precautions:
❄Drive only if necessary.
🤝Check on neighbors, especially elderly or vulnerable individuals who may need assistance.
🚗Slow down, give extra space, and fully clear snow and ice from your vehicle.
🆘Keep an emergency kit in your car and check for updated road conditions before traveling.
🚜Give snow plows space. The Delaware Department of Transportation (DelDOT) is working to keep roads safe for everyone.

Your safety is our top priority. Stay safe in the snow! ⛄

Snow from this storm may be heavy and hard to move. Shoveling can put serious strain on your heart and back, especially if you are not used to strenuous activity.

If you have underlying health conditions, consider asking someone else to handle snow removal.

Before you start, warm up your muscles and stretch. Push snow instead of lifting when possible. If you must lift, use your legs, keep the load small, and avoid twisting. Take frequent breaks, drink water, and stop right away if you feel chest pain, shortness of breath, or dizziness. Check on older neighbors and those with health conditions who may need help clearing snow safely.

Due to an increase in expected snow accumulation, William "Hicks" Anderson Community Center, located at 501 N. Madison Street, will be activated as a Code Purple shelter at 5 pm today. Walk-ins are welcome.

DPH is reporting a measles exposure at the Nemours Children’s Hospital emergency department in Wilmington on February 18, 2026. Contact tracing is ongoing and DPH will be contacting persons who were identified as exposed to confirm whether or not they have been vaccinated against measles before, provide educational resources and recommend quarantine and exclusion orders when necessary. DPH is encouraging people who were exposed to check their vaccination status and watch for symptoms for 21 days until March 11, 2026.

Pregnant women who may have been exposed during this time period should go to an emergency room for assessment and treatment. Any individual who was exposed to measles, and is not fully vaccinated against measles, should get a dose of Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR) vaccine within 72 hours of exposure to someone with measles (by February 21, 2026). Vaccination may be available at facilities like pharmacies and primary care providers. Call your preferred facility to assure they have the MMR vaccine and are available to administer it.

If you are showing symptoms, contact the Office of Infectious Disease Epidemiology during regular business hours (302-744-4990) or the 24-hour reporting line at 1-888-295-5156 outside of normal business hours to coordinate testing, receive guidance, and limit exposures. Those who are ill should seek immediate health care by contacting their doctor. If symptoms are severe, they should seek immediate care at the nearest emergency department. Before going to any health care facility, the individual should notify providers and medical transport that they or their child were exposed to measles. Health care providers who identify any potential measles case should contact OIDE.

If you are unsure of your vaccination status, visit https://delvaxpublicportal.dhss.delaware.gov/ and view their personal profile. Individuals may also contact their primary health care provider for additional details or if they are unable to obtain their records on DelVAX.
