🍀🍻 St. Patrick’s Day & Your Mental Health 🍻🍀

Green drinks are festive.
“Hangxiety” the next day? Not so much. 😬

Here’s what we don’t talk about enough:

🍺 Alcohol & Anxiety
Alcohol is a depressant. It may temporarily relax you, but it disrupts sleep and spikes cortisol — which can make anxiety worse the next day. Hello, 3 a.m. racing thoughts.

🌧️ Alcohol & Depression
It lowers serotonin and affects mood-regulating chemicals. That “fun night out” can turn into a low, irritable, foggy few days after.

💊 Medication Interactions
Mixing alcohol with antidepressants, anti-anxiety meds, stimulants, or mood stabilizers can:
• Reduce effectiveness
• Increase side effects
• Impact heart rate or blood pressure
• Intensify sedation

🤯 “Hangxiety” Is Real
That shaky, regret-filled, overthinking spiral the morning after? It’s your nervous system recalibrating after being artificially suppressed.

You don’t have to skip the fun — but knowing your brain chemistry matters. If mood swings, anxiety spikes, or medication questions are coming up, it may be time for a medication review.

🌫️🌷 March = Seasonal Depression Confusion 🌷🌫️

“Isn’t it spring? Shouldn’t I feel better by now?”

Not so fast. In the Northeast, March often means…
☁️ Gray skies
🌧️ Cold rain
🌬️ Windy days
🌤️ Teases of sunshine (that disappear again)

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) doesn’t always vanish the moment the calendar flips. Your brain adjusts to light gradually — and inconsistent daylight can keep serotonin and melatonin rhythms out of sync. 🧠

That lingering fatigue?
That low motivation?
That irritability you can’t explain?

It may not be a “bad attitude.” It may be a brain still recalibrating.

If symptoms are sticking around, intensifying, or interfering with work, school, or relationships, it may be time to consider additional support. Medication management can help stabilize mood while the seasons sort themselves out.

You’re getting up.
Going to work.
Answering texts.
Paying your bills.
Smiling when people expect you to.

So you must be fine… right?

Not necessarily.

High-functioning depression is incredibly common, but it’s one of the most misunderstood mental health conditions. Many people with depression still go to work, take care of their families, and look like they have it all together — while feeling exhausted, numb, or overwhelmed on the inside.

It’s the kind of depression where people tell you:
“Everyone gets tired.”
“Just push through.”
“You’re doing great!”

Meanwhile you’re thinking…
“Why does everything feel so hard?”

In our newest blog we break down:

✔ What high-functioning depression actually looks like
✔ Signs and symptoms people often miss
✔ Why so many successful people struggle with it
✔ Practical tips to start feeling better
✔ When it might be time to seek mental health treatment

And don’t worry — we explain it without the clinical jargon or the “just try yoga” nonsense.

If you’ve been feeling mentally exhausted, emotionally numb, burned out, or constantly overwhelmed, this blog might help you understand why.

🌷🕒 Spring Forward, Burnout Doesn’t 🕒🌷

We changed the clocks…
But your stress didn’t magically reset. 😅

Transitions — even positive ones — can strain your brain. When schedules shift, sleep gets disrupted, and expectations ramp up (“new season, new energy!”), burnout, anxiety, and low mood can actually worsen.

Why? 🧠
• Sleep loss fuels irritability and brain fog
• Routine changes stress the nervous system
• Increased daylight shifts circadian rhythms
• Productivity pressure spikes this time of year

Your brain thrives on predictability. March offers… chaos. 🌦️

If burnout feels heavier instead of lighter, you’re not failing spring. You may just need more support. Medication management can help stabilize mood, focus, and anxiety during seasonal transitions.

A Very Hard Goodbye to Frank

This week our Psych Alchemy family experienced a heartbreaking loss.

Roni’s beloved dog, Frank, passed away on Monday.

If you’ve ever visited our website, you’ve probably seen Frank. He’s the photo representing Roni in her bio, because when we built Psych Alchemy, neither of us loved the idea of putting our own photos online. Frank proudly stepped in for the job, and honestly… he was the better choice anyway.

But Frank was much more than a picture on a website.
He was Roni’s constant companion, her comfort after long days, her shadow around the house, and truly her child in every sense that matters.

This week she had to make the incredibly difficult and loving decision to say goodbye when his health suddenly declined. Anyone who has loved a pet knows that there is no easy way through that moment.

Pets sit beside us through the quiet moments of life.
They greet us when we come home, they stay when things are hard, and they love us without conditions or expectations. When they leave, the silence they leave behind can feel enormous.

Grief doesn’t only come from losing people. The loss of a beloved animal can break your heart in the same way, because the bond is real and the love is real.

Over the past few months our small team has experienced several losses — Laura lost her parents, Kate recently lost a patient, and now we have lost Frank, who truly felt like part of the Psych Alchemy family.

This week we’re holding space for grief, love, and the reminder that connection — whether with people or animals — is what makes life meaningful.

Frank, thank you for representing Roni so well and for being such a good boy. You were deeply loved, and you will be deeply missed. ❤️

Please keep Roni in your thoughts this week.

🌸✨ Happy International Women’s Day! ✨🌸

Look how far women have come — and how much strength it took to get here. 💪
From breaking barriers in medicine, business, and leadership… to holding families, communities, and entire systems together (often invisibly).

But progress isn’t passive. It requires:
💜 Uplifting women’s voices
💜 Supporting working mothers and caregivers
💜 Addressing burnout and emotional labor
💜 Taking women’s mental health seriously

Because here’s the truth: anxiety, depression, ADHD, hormonal mood shifts, and caregiver fatigue don’t disappear just because women “handle it.” Strength doesn’t mean silent suffering. 🧠

When we support women’s mental health, we support families, workplaces, and entire communities.

If stress, burnout, or mood symptoms feel overwhelming, help is available. Medication management and mental health support can be part of continuing that progress.

Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we support them. May we be them. 🌷

🕒🌅 Daylight Saving Time & Your Brain 🌅🕒

We lose an hour… and suddenly everything feels off.
More anxious.
More distracted.
More tired.

That’s not weakness — that’s neurobiology. 🧠

When we “spring forward,” we disrupt:

😰 Anxiety – Sleep loss = heightened nervous system activity
🧩 ADHD focus – Executive function struggles without adequate rest
🌧️ Depression – Circadian rhythm shifts can affect serotonin balance
😴 Sleep cycles – Your brain needs time to recalibrate

The good news? While we lose an hour, we gain more daylight ☀️ — which can improve mood and energy over time. But the adjustment period is real.

✨ Sleep hygiene tips for smoother transitions:
• Go to bed 15–30 minutes earlier for a few nights
• Limit screens 1 hour before bed
• Get morning sunlight ASAP
• Keep caffeine earlier in the day
• Stick to consistent wake times (even on weekends)

If anxiety spikes, focus tanks, or mood symptoms linger beyond a week or two, it may be time to consider additional support. Medication management can help stabilize what the clock disrupts.

💔 Postpartum Depression Is More Common Than You Think

Every time we see a tragic story in the news about a mother harming her children or herself, the same question appears:

“How could this happen?”

The truth is, many people don’t truly understand postpartum depression — when it starts, what it looks like, or how long it can affect a mother after childbirth.

Postpartum depression is not weakness.
It is a serious and treatable mental health condition that affects 1 in 7 mothers.

Many women suffer in silence because they feel ashamed, confused, or afraid to ask for help.

In our newest blog from Psych Alchemy, we break down:

✔ What postpartum depression really is
✔ When symptoms can start (it’s not always right after birth)
✔ Warning signs family and partners should watch for
✔ The difference between baby blues and postpartum depression
✔ Treatment options and ways to support recovery

If you are a new mom, partner, family member, or friend, this information could help you recognize the signs and support someone who needs help.

No mother should feel alone in this experience.

🌦️😵‍💫 March Mood Swings Are Real 😵‍💫🌦️

Longer days… but still freezing.
More sunlight… but zero motivation.
Schedule shifts… but your brain hasn’t caught up.

Welcome to emotional whiplash season.

In the Northeast, March is a biological tug-of-war:
☀️ Increasing daylight affects melatonin and serotonin
⏰ Daylight Saving Time disrupts sleep
🌡️ Weather swings stress the nervous system
📅 Routines shift at work, school, and home

It’s completely normal to feel more irritable, anxious, tired, or emotionally “off” right now. Your brain loves predictability — and March offers none.

If mood changes are intense, lingering, or interfering with daily life, it may be more than seasonal adjustment. Medication management can help stabilize what the weather can’t. 🧠✨

🌍✨ It’s World Compliment Day! ✨🌍

Today’s assignment (yes, it’s mandatory 😄):
👉 Compliment someone. Anyone. Right now.

Why? Because compliments aren’t just nice—they’re neurochemical magic 🧠💥
Giving or receiving a genuine compliment can boost dopamine, increase connection, and soften stress. Small words = big mental health impact.

And if today feels heavy or your brain isn’t soaking in the good stuff like it used to, that’s okay too. Sometimes support needs to go beyond positivity and self-care. Mental health treatment—including medication management—can help your brain get back to balance.

✨💛 Today, We’re Celebrating Quiet Strength 💛✨

Today we’re honoring a remarkable woman close to the Psych Alchemy family—someone who has fought for every birthday since day one. Born extremely early, facing serious medical challenges in infancy, and living with chronic illness, she has shown us what resilience truly looks like. 🌱

Now celebrating 35 years, she is kind, thoughtful, wise beyond her years, and endlessly inspiring to those who know her—and even those who don’t. Her journey reminds us that strength doesn’t always look loud or dramatic. Sometimes it looks like showing up, year after year, even when the road is hard. 💫

During challenging seasons—physically, emotionally, or mentally—it’s okay to need support. Resilience doesn’t mean doing it alone. Whether you’re navigating chronic stress, anxiety, depression, or just feeling worn down, help is available.

If February feels extra heavy, it’s not a personal flaw—it’s biology. ❄️🧠

Short days, less sunlight, disrupted sleep, and post-holiday burnout can all hit your brain chemistry at once. Feeling more tired, irritable, unmotivated, or low right now is common—and treatable.

Seasonal emotional shifts are real. You’re not weak, broken, or “failing winter.” 💛
Support (including medication when appropriate) can help your brain rebalance—no waiting for spring required.
