By a happy coincidence, we’ve been able to practice Omkara meditation in my Sunday class. I am always happy when we have a chance to practice it because this medication is so freaking simple but so powerful! After completing it the body is vibrating. And you know, vibrations and energy flow are very important. That is what makes river so fresh and alive. In contrary, lack of inner movements makes swamp so stinky.

Thanksgiving sale 💥
My name is Anna Pradhan. I have been teaching Hatha Yoga for the last 11 years. Unfortunately, a lot of yoga classes today focus just on fitness. My classes are different. We focus on meditation, pranayama and bodily sensations. During the class, I give importance to adjusting the asana and we hold the position in order to observe what is happening with the body.
I have a couple of spots open in my Sunday morning class, which is from 10 am to 11am.
The usual price is $60 per month but during the Thanksgiving sale it is $40.
I also offer you a 20-minute one on one call each month where I answer your questions and give you personal recommendations about your practice.

One of the yogis whom I follow said "don't try to be a yoga teacher. Try to be a good yogi. Then to be a yoga teacher wouldn't be a problem". For me, this phrase is very powerful and motivates me to do my own practice.
What does it mean for you to be a yogi/yogini?

Yogis of yesteryears were somewhat obsessed with having a straight back. One is as old as the condition of the spine, they would say. The spine should be supple and strong. Why should it be straight? Because if the curly backbone which looks like a cobra hanging from a tree and having 3 1/2 curls is not straightened, the sushumna will not be straight and will impede the movement of prana through it to reach the brahmarandhra for the hatayogi. The Kundalini yogi also wants a straight spine to facilitate free movement of the aroused kundalini through sushumna. So how does the yogis straighten the backbone?

If you want to stretch a slack rope you have to hold the rope on both ends and stretch it to remove the kinks or curls.
So we have to get a grip of the spine at both ends, the tail end and the head of the spine which will be tailbone and the cervical part of the spine. The yogis held the spine at both ends by tucking the tailbone and doing jalandhara bandha.

What is the difference between the Chandra-Namaskar sequence and Surya-Namaskar?
Chandra Namaskar (Moon salutations) are exercises designed to activate the lunar energy in our body. It gives peace, relaxation and helps to restore strength. It is especially useful in the evenings, for people of Pitta and Vata constitution, and for everyone who has a depleted nervous system or is under the influence of severe stress. It has the same re-energizing effect as after a pleasant bath.
Surya Namaskar (Sun salutations) are exercises that activate our solar energy, giving vigor, activity, determination and clarity of mind. They improve our circulation. They are useful in the morning. They are especially favorable to the people of Kapha and Vata constitution. The effect of this exercise is similar to basking in morning sunshine.
You will see that the sequence of asanas in Chandra Namaskar is the same as in Surya Namaskar, with the exception of the asana Anjaneyasana, which dramatically changes the energy of this sequence.

Recently, I went to a meditation. Well, not exactly a meditation - a meditation event. It’s now fashionable in San Francisco to rent some unusual place, like a museum or a Church, and do meditation or an event related to spiritual practice. For example, I was in a planetarium rented for this purpose.
The planetarium with its dome creates an atmosphere of Space. There is a musician sitting on an improvised stage and playing the violoncello. Nice and slow melodies. When everyone has gathered, the meditation host comes out. A very provocative girl who speaks well and jokes effortlessly. Generally, she is able to inspire the crowd easily. She talks for approximately 1.5 hours about her interesting life. Her life is really interesting. Then we did something like an Osho AUM meditation: a shortened and simplified version of some stages of that meditation. This was followed by breathing practice afterwards. The music was playing loudly. Also in the style of Osho, but slightly more modern. Feels like it took about 40 minutes maximum.
Did I enjoy it? Definitely! Can I call it something deep? No. I also can’t call it meditation or something spiritual. It was a cool show. And I felt just like after a cool musical.
I don’t know what to think about it, honestly. On the one hand, that is narrowness and mass-media meditation. On the other hand, maybe it helps people. Not everyone is ready for a really authentic meditation.

Were there moments in your childhood when you played with your body by doing some poses? And then you called your parents saying, “Mom, look how I can...”. 🙃 Do you remember any of those poses? I remember how I always stood on one leg and the other pose that I enjoyed was raising my legs above my head.
Yoga might sound serious. Sometimes we feel that we are not ready to commit to practicing yoga every day. But what if we were to start, as we did before in our childhood, by just making a couple of movements that bring us joy and pleasure? Would your mindset and mood change for the rest of the day?
