Starfish, or sea stars, are incredible marine animals that function without a brain. Instead of a central nervous system, they have a complex network of nerves that coordinate movement and responses to their surroundings. Each arm contains part of this system, allowing the starfish to sense light, touch, and food independently. Despite lacking a brain, starfish can regenerate lost limbs, open shells of prey like clams, and adapt to their environment. Their unique biology proves that intelligence and survival don’t always rely on having a brain—nature often finds brilliant ways to make simplicity work beautifully.
