Former Snyder teacher Marshall Parham went home to be with the Lord on April 2, 2026.

He was born on December 17, 1934, in Waco, Texas, and grew up in Menard, where he was known as a well-rounded athlete. After spending two years in ROTC at Tarleton State College, he went on to become a National Science Foundation Scholar and graduated from North Texas University.

Visitation will be held Friday, April 17, From 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Miller Funeral Home in Snyder Texas. Graveside services will be held Saturday, April 18, at 3:00 p.m. at Rest Haven Cemetery in Menard, Texas.

Marshall dedicated more than 40 years of his life to teaching physical science at Lamar Junior High and Snyder High School. Generations of students remember him not just as a teacher, but as someone who made learning come alive. His classroom was often filled with excitement, as he performed science experiments that sometimes felt more like a "magic show" than a lesson. He had a gift for sparking curiosity and leaving a lasting impression.

Marshall moved to Snyder in August of 1959 to begin his teaching career. It was there he met Sue, a Speech and Drama teacher who would soon become the love of his life. They were married on July 17, 1959, and together built a life full of love, laughter, and family.

Marshall and Sue were blessed with three children: Marca Porter, Glenn Parham, and Dana Dunton. Their home was often filled with joy-whether it was through theater, family game nights, traveling, or hosting gatherings with friends and loved ones. Marshall was also an avid reader and enjoyed spending time gardening.

He is preceded in death by his parents, W. M. and Myrtle Parham; his sister, Jeroline Crisp Newman; and his beloved wife, Sue Parham.

Marshall will be remembered as a devoted husband, father, teacher, and friend. His kindness, passion for teaching, and ability to connect with others will not be forgotten.

He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his legacy will live on in the many lives he touched.

John Zalman III, of Hermleigh, Texas, passed away on March 24, 2026, at the age of 79, surrounded by family after a long illness.

John was born in Sweetwater, Texas, on March 13, 1947, to John and Evelyn (Roemisch) Zalman Jr. He grew up in Scurry County, graduated from Snyder High School in 1965, and later earned his degree from Texas Tech University in 1971. But more than anything, this was home-and it's where he chose to spend his life.

A Rosary will be held Thursday, April 9, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Elizabeth's Catholic Church in Snyder. Funeral Mass will be Friday, April 10, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Elizabeth's Catholic church. A private internment will take place at Hermleigh Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest beside Donna.

In 1968, John met Donna Stinnett, and the two married the following year on April 24, 1969. Together, they raised four sons and opened their home to many foster children over the years. Their home wasn't just a place to live, it was a place where people were cared for, guided, and given a chance.

John wore many hats over the years. He was a farmer, a business owner, and the face behind ZTV for decades, earning a Lifetime Achievement Award for his work. He also spent years driving a bus for Snyder ISD, becoming a steady and familiar presence for the students he saw each day. No matter the role, he showed up, worked hard, and did things the right way.

He was also a man of faith and a proud member of the Knights of Columbus (3rd Degree).

Those who knew John would likely describe him as steady, dependable, and quietly impactful. He wasn't one to seek attention, but his life spoke for itself-through his work, his family, and the many lives he helped along the way.

He is survived by his sister, Barbara Bulen of Lubbock; his sons, John IV (Robyn) of Amarillo, David of San Antonio, Nathan of Lubbock, and Toby (Stephanie) of Lubbock; along with 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna; his parents; and his daughter-in-law, Evelyn Zalman.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels or the American Cancer Society.

John's life was built on hard work, faith, and showing up for the people who mattered. He will be missed, remembered, and appreciated more than words can say.

Albert Dean Brown
June 28, 1944 — March 30, 2026
Albert Brown, 81, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 30, 2026. Albert was born June 28, 1944, to his loving parents, Bill and Georgia Brown, in Casa Grande, Arizona. Services for Mr. Brown will be on Friday, April 3rd, at 10 AM at Jayton Cemetery. Visitation will be on Thursday, April 2nd, from 6-7 PM at Miller Family Funeral Home in Snyder, Texas.Albert was a man of many talents and passions, never one to sit still for long. From working cattle, playing golf, and riding motorcycles in his younger years to socializing his way around Jayton in his 1992 faded red golf cart, he had a knack for turning ordinary days into memorable ones. He loved his work and retired from three careers, including logging over two million accident-free miles as a truck driver, maintaining Kent County roads, and operating heavy equipment in oil fields and on ranches. No matter the job, he gave it his full effort and likely had a story (or strong opinion) to go along with it.He also served as Mayor of Jayton for eight years, an avid sports fan for both Jayton and Hermleigh, and the best mower you would ever meet. He also never met a referee or umpire who could make quite the right call or a blade of grass too short to mow.

He lived life out loud, never met a stranger, and rarely let a day pass without sharing a joke or story that left others laughing. He will be remembered as the best Husband, Dad, Poppie, Bubba, and friend-a man whose presence was as constant and familiar as the red golf cart making its rounds.

Albert is survived by his loving wife, Jean Brown; his daughters, Bobbie Brown, Rebecca Brown, and Rachel Hoover; his son-in-law, Jake Hoover; his cherished grandchildren, Justine Latham, Judd Latham, Linus Hoover, Emori Hoover, and Braidyn Lynch; his great-grandchildren, Carter Latham and Camila Parrish; his brother, Benny Brown; his sister, Susan Lal; and his sister-in-law Vera Brown.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Bill and Georgia Brown, and his brother, Ronny Brown.

In lieu of flowers, the family has asked to donate to Jayton-Girard ISD and Hermleigh Athletic Booster Club.

Jean Littlepage Everett
1928-2026

In the late hours of March 20, 2026, our precious aunt, second mom, and dear friend, Elda Jean
(Littlepage) Everett, was reunited with her beloved husband, Jess Everett, in heaven. She was
97 years old.
A celebration of Jean's life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday March 28, 2026 at Grace
Fellowship Church in Snyder. Reverend Ryan Ford will officiate. Interment will follow at Gail
Cemetery under the direction of Miller Funeral Home. Visitation will be March 27 from 5:30 -
6:30 p.m. at the Miller Family Funeral Home.
Elda Jean, known by most as Jean, was born on October 11, 1928 in Snyder, Texas. Jean
married Jess Everett on July 23,1948 in Snyder Texas. They celebrated a wonderful life
together for 65 years. They were long-time ranchers in Borden and Scurry counties. She was
the epitome of a rancher's wife and was known for her excellent cooking, bringing meals to the
crew when working cattle. We believe many cowboys helped Jess work cattle just to enjoy her
home cooking. She always laughed when telling the story of holding the cows tail up late at
night while Jess had to pull calves when he bred his herd to the "wrong" bull.
Jean professed her faith in Jesus Christ and was active in the First United Methodist Church.
She was a member of the Angel Seekers class. She loved the Lord and lived her life faithfully
serving God.
Jean had a love of history and journalism. She concentrated her community and literary efforts
toward the preservation of the history of Scurry County. She served as the Chairwoman of the
Scurry County Historical Commission for more than ten years and was instrumental in
establishing the Scurry County Heritage Village with the successful relocation of the Cornelius-
Dodson house to the Village.
Jean also wrote, edited and contributed to several publications of historical significance for
Scurry County including: Scurryly Speaking - a compilation of newsletters about early day
settlers. The newsletter became so popular that it grew into a subscription and subsequently a
weekly article published in the Snyder Daily News. Others included The Curtain; Depression
Kids; Pioneer Profiles; and From the Cookie to the Chef.
She received numerous awards for her service and dedication to Snyder and Scurry County
including the Snyder Chamber of Commerce Vestal Award, Snyder Chamber of Commerce
Exemplary Service Award; Snyder's WHOO (We Honor Our Own) Award; Outstanding County
Chairman awarded by the Texas Historical Commission; and Outstanding Woman of Scurry
County.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents, James Obert and Marie (Turner) Littlepage;
husband Jess Everett; brother, James Littlepage; sisters-in-law Jo Ann Littlepage and Dewey
Fay Miller; and brothers-in-law Dub Everett and Donnie Everett.
Survivors include many beloved nieces and nephews and their spouses, Karen Waller and
husband, Jay, of Ira; Debra Kesseler of Houston; Bryan Littlepage of Kenner, Louisiana; AnnEverett of Snyder; Tammy and husband, Mike Valentine, of Borden County, and special family

members; Danny McCormack of Houston, Dave Appleton of Arlington, and Donnie Yorks of
Valley City, Ohio and their families.
Special great nieces and nephews and their spouses, Kaci and husband, Joel Lollar, of Snyder;
Krista Kesseler of Houston; Kevin Kesseler of Houston; Kyler Kesseler of College Station;
Elizabeth and husband, Nick Saybe, of Kener, Louisiana; Alex Littlepage and wife, Leslie, of
Metairie, Louisiana; Rachel Maxfield of Snyder; Wes and Susan Everett of Lubbock, Bennie
Everett and numerous special cousins and friends.
We are forever grateful to Marylou Orosco, Ashley, Ola and Marie for their unwavering care,
love, and compassion, which made Jean's journey more peaceful and dignified.
Memorials may be made to the Historic Scurry County Inc. at P.O. Box 382, Snyder TX 79550.

Refugio Alvidrez Franco
July 4, 1940 — March 14, 2026
Refugio Alvidrez Franco, a beacon of love and selflessness, embarked on his final journey on March 14, 2026, in Odessa, Texas. Born on the Fourth of July in 1940, in the humble town of Westbrook, Texas, Refugio's life was a testament to the enduring spirit of hard work and devotion. Through gentle words and compassion his hands shaped the lives of many, touching even more hearts along the way.

Visitation for Mr. Franco is set for Friday March 20,2026 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM with the Rosary starting at 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM. in Miller Family Funeral Home Chapel in Snyder, Texas. The services for MR. Franco are set for Saturday March 21,2026 at 10:00 AM at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Colorado City, Texas, with Father Michael officiating. The internment will follow at Mitchell County Cemetery in Colorado City, Texas.

Refugio's legacy is carried on by the love of his life, Juanita Franco, with whom he shared a love that was the bedrock of their family. Together, they raised sons Ray and Louis Franco, and daughters Debora Rangel-Franco, Veronica Franco and Cecilia Chavez. His life was further blessed with the joy of 19 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Refugio's journey was marked by both joy and sorrow, with the loss 2 of his daughters Barbara Ann Franco in 1962 and 2025.

Refugio's Catholic faith was the cornerstone of his existence, guiding his way in every action and was the source of his unwavering kindness. His religion was not just a belief system; it was the very essence of his being, the compass that directed his path of love, faith, and strength.

With a voice that could touch hearts, Refugio's love for singing and playing his guitar was a source of joy for all who knew him. He found solace in the embrace of nature and outdoors, where he could often be found basking in the serene company of the earth's beauty. His love for sports could be heard when he cheered on his favorite team, like the Dallas Cowboys. His passion for life mirrored in the time he spent with his loved ones-every moment a cherished memory, every laugh a note in the symphony of his life.

Refugio "Cuco" Franco was the embodiment of compassion, kindness, and selflessness. These words are not merely adjectives but are the pillars of a life well-lived. They are the echoes of his actions, the whispers of his deeds, and the legacy he leaves behind. He will be greatly missed and admired for his kind soul and loving heart that shall never be forgotten.

As we reflect on Refugio's life, let us not dwell on the silence of his absence but rather on the melody of his existence that continues to resonate within us. Let us carry forward the torch of his spirit, illuminating the path for others as he did for so many. Refugio "Cuco" Franco's life was a masterclass in humanity, and it is up to us to keep his teachings alive, to spread the warmth of his love, and to live with the grace of his kindness.
