"If you ask me
about my mother,"
I'll smile and say - she's kind, she's funny, she lights up every room.
But if you ask me with your heart open...
I'll pause, swallow the lump in my throat, and tell you - she's the strongest soul I've ever known.
I've watched her carry storms in silence, wipe her own tears when no one was watching, and rise every time life tried to break her.
She's not just my mom.
She's my strength.
She's my safe place.
She's my everything.

Jacqueline Gayle Browning (A.K.A. Aunt Sis) was born to Jesse and Joye Browning on August 25, 1940, in Abilene, Texas. Gayle went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 18, 2025.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday October 25, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Miller Family Funeral Home Chapel.

She lived most of her early life in Dermont and Fluvanna, Texas. In her early years with her younger sister by her side, life on the ranch was seldom complete without visits from her first cousin, Ellie (Browning) Vermillion. After graduating from Rocky Comfort High School in Missouri, she attended Lubbock Christian College and Texas Tech University. Gayle later moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where she worked in the travel industry. She returned to Texas due to health concerns stemming from childhood polio. Upon recovery, she returned to Tennessee, where she assisted her lifelong best friend, Rebecca Pruet, in opening the nation's first Hospital Hospitality House. During this time, she also served as a ministry leader at Belmont Church. Gayle developed a passion for international Christian ministry and attended a School of Evangelism in London, England. Afterward, she traveled to various countries, serving the Lord through ministry. One interesting effort involved successfully smuggling Bibles into Czechoslovakia, behind the Iron Curtain. Upon her return to the United States, she established and directed another Hospital Hospitality House in Jackson, Mississippi. This work lasted until she became disabled. Even then, she remained active, volunteering and ministering in churches throughout her community. In 2009, Gayle moved to Colorado City, Texas, where she lived the rest of her life surrounded by family. While Gayle never had children of her own, she was affectionately known as "Aunt Sis" to many children throughout her life-especially those in her family. She supported and attended countless ballet recitals, athletic events, graduations, birthday parties, tea parties, trips, and other activities, always showing her love and support.

Gayle is survived by her younger sister, Jessie "Bunny" Nelson, of Colorado City, Texas, and several close loved cousins. She is also survived by her lifelong best friend and fellow minister, Rebecca Pruet; her nieces and nephews-Greg Jones, Tommy Jones, Jessica Nelson, Lori Dove, Caree Nelson, Noree Lohse, Crystal Nelson, and Roland "Bingo" Nelson; and a host of great- and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Gayle is preceded in death by her parents and other beloved family members.
