Frontier Community Services

Frontier Community Services Empowering individuals with disabilities to live the life they choose with the supports they direct.

Frontier Community Services is dedicated to helping people stay in their home and to remain active in their community. Originally founded by a group of parents who wanted more for their children with disabilities than sitting at home in front of the TV, Frontier Community Services has developed programs for individuals of all ages. We provide a full array of services throughout a person's life span. We believe that people with disabilities can and should be valued members of their community and we strive to make this a reality for every individual we serve.

🚨 It’s time to recognize the profession that holds our system together.

In just three months since the Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act (H.R. 6137 / S. 3211) was reintroduced, dozens of members of Congress have stepped up to support creating a Standard Occupational Classification (SOC) for Direct Support Professionals. Now we need more.

DSPs are the backbone of home and community-based services. They help people with intellectual and developmental disabilities live independently, work meaningful jobs, and stay connected to their communities.

But here’s the hard truth: the workforce is in crisis. Without a distinct SOC, we can’t even gather accurate national data to fix high turnover, workforce shortages, and funding gaps. You can help change that.

📢 Take Action Today:
Contact your members of Congress and ask them to cosponsor the Recognizing the Role of Direct Support Professionals Act.

Let’s give DSPs the professional recognition they’ve earned — and protect the supports people with disabilities depend on.

The Frontier Social Club had a fantastic time participating in yesterday’s Gaming at Noon! 🙌

This event is part of the Independent Living Center’s TRAILS (Total Recreation And Independent Living Services) program and was hosted by Holland's Hobbies — and it did not disappoint.

We were thrilled to see even more participants join in this time. Apples to Apples brought the fun in full force. There were giggles, full-on belly laughs, and some serious competition — especially from Lenore’s game team, who showed up ready to WIN.

The concentration faces were real. The cheers were loud. And yes… there were a few laughing-so-hard-your-eyes-water moments.

Events like this create such a positive space for connection, confidence-building, and good old-fashioned fun. The smiles around the table said it all.

We’d love to see even more participation next month — keep an eye on the calendar for details.

Great job to everyone who participated and supported this event. Let’s keep building community, one game at a time. 🎲

Rocking an apron instead of a reflective vest.

After five years pushing carts and one full year of dedicated advocacy, one of the individuals we support has officially been offered a Produce Clerk position at Fred Meyer Soldotna.

This didn’t happen overnight. It took perseverance, consistency, and showing up day after day ready to work. Huge thanks to Bexx and the team at Frontier Community Services for the behind-the-scenes advocacy—and to Fred Meyer Soldotna for recognizing ability and giving someone the chance to move forward.

This is what progress looks like. This is why we do the work. 💙
Thank you Nikki for capturing this milestone!
