🌸 Women’s History Month | The Legacy of Nursing

Florence Nightingale is considered the founder of modern nursing.

During the Crimean War, she transformed patient care by improving sanitation, hygiene, and hospital practices, dramatically reducing mortality rates. Her work laid the foundation for professional nursing education and standards that continue today.

In skilled nursing facilities like Eden Valley Care Center, her legacy lives on through the compassionate care provided by nurses and caregivers every day.

We love when the Soledad Police Department stops by Eden Valley Care Center during a patrol break to grab their boost from Veloz, our very own local coffee favorite serving up “the fuel that keeps you going.”

Proudly rooted in the City of Soledad, we are grateful for partnerships that keep our hometown strong, from public safety to local small businesses.

Veloz isn’t just coffee. He’s community. A proud Soledad resident serving up smiles, connection, and that extra kick our officers and staff need to power through the day.

💛 Supporting Our Community Through Uncertain Times

This week, the County of Monterey Board of Supervisors took swift action to ensure our residents continue to have access to food during the federal government shutdown. The Board approved an urgency allocation of $150,000 to support our local food bank and help families who rely on SNAP/CalFresh benefits throughout November.

This one-time funding will bridge the gap as federal contingency funds are processed — ensuring that over 51,000 local residents, including 29,000 children, have the food they need.

We encourage our community partners, organizations, and local jurisdictions to share this important information and, if possible, join the County in pledging funds to strengthen food access across Monterey County.

Together, we can make sure no one goes hungry. 🍎💚
