Squirrel Appreciation Day is today. Our gang in rehab for the winter. Some are healing and some are youngsters waiting for better weather. Meet Zoey, a pet squirrel that a person no longer wanted at about the age of 7 plus, very sad story for an animal that knew no other life and no longer wanted by anyone, and didn’t like anyone but her original owner. Regretfully due to malloclusion issues, she was forced to deal with me. Now three years later, was at death’s door once again, I was able to turn her around, will she ever be able to see the wild that she never knew, probably not, but she’s happy while she’s here, her days are numbered, but as long as she’s not in pain I will take care of her. Than, we have Red, a female squirrel, came in about a month ago. Injured with neurological symptoms, she has fully recovered, waiting for the weather to break from this cold with hopes of getting her back to where she came from very soon. She’s an adult, most likely pregnant, she is far better off giving birth back to the wild than in my clinic. And than we have the 4 kids, let them out loose in the clinic tonight, face it, it is Squirrel Appreciation Day today, so letting them play. They are just waiting on weather to break and an outdoor enclosure to open up so they can get outside, the kids were late fall babies. So I closed Squirrels and More to have more time in my life, I guess I’ll never truly retire, my animals are my life, and yes my human family is also my life but I will always appreciate my squirrels for everything they have taught me over the many years as well as all the other animals I have always cared for, whether it it be my domestic animals, my farm animals, or my wildlife, they have all made me a better person. Thankful for all my babies, young and old. Human or animal. The very last image is me and Holly, a fall baby with a severe broken bone in her hip. We tried to fuse it with time, there was no way to set the break, amputation was not an option, regretfully I had to euthanize her two days after this photo due to a bone infection. She sure was a cutie and I sure wish I could have saved her, regretfully I could not. Not the best photo of me, but this was me and Holly 2 days before she died, yes, I was drinking, Holly was not drinking, but we had a lot of fun that night. RIP Holly.🥰🐴🫏🐿️🐐🐄🦮🐓
Everyone needs to appreciate the squirrel, far from a varment, extremely intelligent, and they plant so many important trees for us all the time, they do so much more good than harm. So please appreciate our squirrel’s today and every day. Christina Clark from Chris’s Squirrels and More.
