Joyce A. (Coner) Thompson, 88, of Franklin, IN passed away Wednesday, April 1, 2026 at Aspen Trace Senior Living in Greenwood, IN. She was born October 7, 1937 in Detroit, MI to John and Elma Lee (Garner) Coner.
Joyce grew up in Detroit before moving to the family farm in Nancy, KY. She was the eldest of eight siblings. When she was just a year shy for permission, she met James “Jim” Thompson from a nearby town. He worked at a local gas station and that’s when romance began. Jim moved to Franklin, IN for employment at Arvin Automotive, leaving Joyce behind, during this one year courtship Jim went to visit Joyce 50 weekends out of 52. Once permission was granted, they were married, Joyce moved to Franklin with Jim, and began her 57 year career beginning as a Nurse’s Aid and finishing as a Microbiologist in the hospital Lab at Johnson Memorial Hospital. Yes, 57 years, a work ethic unknown in today’s world.
Joyce and Jim were married 63 years before Jim passed away on April 10, 2016. She was a member of Amity Baptist Church, Psi Iota Xi sorority, Investment Club, Union Village Eastern Star #584, and the Red Hat Society.
Joyce loved to travel and stay on the go, she had season tickets to Beef and Boards dinner theatre, Starlight Musicals, The Little Nashville Opry, and she was a regular at Walt Disney World, took numerous cruises, went to Hawaii several times and went on a once-in-a-lifetime European cruise thru the Mediterranean.
She offered hospitality, sometimes living quarters, food, often advice, and love beyond compare to her siblings and their spouses, and duly noted was the “Queen of Clean”!
Survivors include her two boys J. Larry (Dee) Thompson, of Franklin, IN, Jeffery Lee (Lisa) Thompson of Franklin, IN, two granddaughters Christina (Eric), Leanna (Justin), and two grandsons Josh (Carly) and Kenny (Jessica), nine great-grandchildren Taylor, Isabelle, Lyla, Adeline, Mason Lee, Karter, Cora, Cameron, and Charli. She has lots of nieces and nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews.
Joyce is also survived by her siblings, J.D. (Eleanor) Coner, Linville Coner, Ronald (Dana), Robert Coner, David (Judy) Coner, all of Franklin, IN, Norma Jean (Roy) Frye, of Nancy KY, and Janice Dye, of Nancy KY.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Jim, sisters-in-law Betty Coner, Sue Coner, Debby Coner, and one brother-in-law Paul Dye.
Pastor Bill Turner will conduct a graveside service at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 9th, 2026 at The Gardens at Olive Branch Cemetery, 1605 South State Road 135, Greenwood, IN. There will be a gathering of family and friends prior to the graveside service from 11:00 A.M. until 1:30 P.M. on Thursday, April 9, 2026 at Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center, 300 South Morton Street, Franklin, IN.

Barbara Ellen Whitis, age 65 of Somerset, KY, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital. She was born on July 11, 1960 at Somerset, KY, the daughter of Lynn Earl Cameron and Gloria Dean Thompson Cameron.

Barbara was a member of Sunny Side Baptist Church. She enjoyed sewing, word searches, plastic canvas, and puzzles. She loved spending time with her family and she LOVED her grandkids.

She is survived by her daughters, Amanda Cuomo (Justin) of Woodbridge, VA and Jessica Fizer (Brian) of Nicholasville, KY; her grandchildren, Kayla, Mason, and Riley; three brothers, Lon Cameron (Susie), James Cameron (Margie) and Danny Cameron; and seven sisters, Vicki Debord (Danny), Diana Correll, Gloria D***s (Derill), Debbie Greer, Bonnie Coomer, Peggy Denney (Reese) and Elsie Denney (Michael), her fiancé, Nathan Calhoun; extended family members, neighbors and friends who are saddened by her passing.

Along with her parents, Lynn and Gloria Cameron, Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, William Dwayne Powers; her grandsons, Evan Mathew Cuomo and Emory Louis Cuomo; her step brother, Ron Howard of Bethel, OH; her stepsister, Alice Hashman of St Mary’s WV; her nephew, Matthew Coomer; and her niece, Joyce Ann Cameron.

Visitation will be on Thursday, April 2, 2026 from 5:00 pm – 8:00 pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

Christopher Lee Gilmore, age 52, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026 at his residence.

Chris was born on December 16, 1973 to Brenda and Clyde Gilmore in Somerset, KY.

Chris leaves behind to mourn his memory, his parents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his baby sister, Tamara L. Gilmore, grandparents, uncles and aunts.

Chris enjoyed the outdoors, helping his dad work on vehicles, listening to music and spending time with his dog, “Ms. Wiggles.” He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, April 7, 2026 from 11:00am until 1:00pm at Lake Cumberland Funeral Home.

His funeral service will follow on Tuesday, April 7th at 1:00pm at the Chapel of Lake Cumberland Funeral Home with Rev. Seibert F. Taylor officiating. Full Military Honors will be conducted by American Legion Post # 38 Honor Guard. Burial will be at Mt. Olive Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.

Robert Lee Ramsey, 82 of Elihu Cabin Hollow Community, passed from his earthly home to his eternal home on Saturday, March 28, 2026 at Cumberland Nursing and Rehab. Robert was born on December 29, 1943 at Somerset, KY, the son of Elmer Ramsey and Emogene Meece Ramsey. He married Barbara Heath Ramsey on July 20, 1968 and they have shared life for almost 58 years.

Robert was a longtime member of Zion Baptist Church…he loved his church and his church family. Robert was saved at age 53. Robert worked for many years at Lear Siegler, later he worked as a full-time farmer, raising cattle. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and sightseeing with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara; two sons, Robert Ramsey (Vicki) of South Carolina and Shawn Ramsey (Amber) of Somerset; four grandchildren, Kyler, William (Kayla), Elizabeth, and Lauren; one great grandson, Parker Ramsey; his sisters in law, Diane Ramsey of Frankfort, IN and Sandra Denney and Kathy Martin (Forrest) both of Somerset; nieces and nephew, Amanda Denney of Somerset, Jennifer Ramsey and Natalie Unger, both of Frankfort, IN, and Brian Ramsey of Japan; extended family members and a host of friends, church family and neighbors who are saddened by his passing.

In addition to his parents, Elmer and Emogene Ramsey; Robert was preceded in death by his stepmother, Marie Meece Ramsey; his brother, Luther Ramsey; his in-laws, Sam and Lillian Heath and his brother-in-law, Bill Denney.

Plano Lewis Fox, age 96, of Goodrich, MI and formerly of Nancy, KY passed away on Friday, March 27, 2026 at his residence.

Plano was born on November 14, 1929 in Nancy, KY to the late Raymond Fox and Gertrude Beasley Fox. He was a veteran of the United States Army. Plano was united in marriage to his wife, Madge Bailey Fox, on July 7, 1955 in Georgia and they celebrated 66 years of marriage before her passing on August 20, 2021.

He is survived by three sons, Rickey (Christine) Fox of Gladwin, MI; Keith (April) Fox of Fraser, MI; and Marcus (Cindy) Fox of Goodrich, MI; one sister, Corena Dalton of Nancy; and many loving grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Madge Fox; four brothers, R.V. Fox, Roscoe Fox, Larry Fox and Leo Fox; one sister, Edna Pierce; and one great grandson, Tyler Jason Niemi.

Mark Allan Smith, age 37 of Somerset, KY, passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2026 at his residence. Mark was born on April 6, 1988 at Somerset, the son of Carthel Smith and Mary Haynes Smith. Despite Mark’s limitations due to cerebral palsy, he was loving and a bright light in our lives. Mark was a 2009 graduate of Southwestern High School. He enjoyed cartoons, game shows, stuffed animals and listening to music.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Smith; two sisters, April Budd (Tim) of Berea, KY and Ashley Bradley of Somerset; his nieces and nephews, Autumn, Loren, L.T. and Makenna Budd; Zackaury and Tristan Brumley; and Julianna Bradley; extended family members and friends who are saddened by his passing.

Mark was preceded in death by his father, Carthel Smith; paternal grandparents, Merlin and Dorothy Smith; and maternal grandparents, Billy and Lavonne Haynes.

John Edward Cummings, age 43, of Somerset, KY, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026 at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital.

John was born on November 21, 1982 in Germany to the late Lon Dale and Ingrid Cummings. He worked in the construction business. John loved his Jeep, mudding, being outdoors and watching the Philadelphia Eagles. He enjoyed music, collecting watches and sunglasses. John loved spending time with family and friends. Most of all, loved spending time with his grandson, Sammy.

He is survived by his wife, Justan Maria Vernatter, whom he married on March 12, 2026 in Eubank; one son, Jordan Robinette of Somerset; two daughters, Kimber Heath and Zoey Holder of Somerset; one grandchild, Samuel Collins; and friends who are saddened by his passing.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Lon (Ingrid) Cummings.

Arthur was born on October 17, 1946 in Ft. Smith, AR to the late Rubin E. Dawson and Lucille Temple Dawson. He retired as a Professor from Somerset Community College after 30 years. Arthur was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He enjoyed watching baseball and playing the guitar and singing.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Zupancic Dawson of Somerset; one daughter, Amanda Faith Dawson of Somerset, KY; one brother, Erwin “Dale” Dawson of Ft. Smith, AR; and other family members and friends who are saddened by his passing.

Arthur was preceded in death by his parents, Rubin (Lucille) Dawson.

Robert was born on December 22, 1952 in Nancy, KY to the late Harold “Taft” Calhoun and Renda Redmond Calhoun. He enjoyed working on cars, playing guitar and shooting guns. Robert loved making people laugh, sitting on the porch smoking ci******es and drinking coffee.

He is survived by two sons, Robert Lee Calhoun, Jr. and Micky R Calhoun; his grandchildren, Krista Calhoun, Alexis McDonald, Lily Calhoun, Justin Beach, Joseph Miller and Connor Burton; one great grandchild, Mateo Palmer; one brother, Albert “Buck” Calhoun; brother-in-law, Wayne Molden; and sister-in-law, Wanda Buxton. He is also survived by several special nieces, nephews, extended family members and many friends.

Lindsey Burton, age 93, of Science Hill, KY, passed away on Saturday, March 14, 2026 at Somerset Nursing and Rehabilitation.
Lindsey was born on September 29, 1932 at Naomi, KY, to Arthur and Tressa Burton. He married Earlene Ard on November 27, 1951.

After working a short time in Dayton, OH, Lindsey and Earlene settled on their farm in Science Hill, where they lived and farmed for the rest of their lives. He was a member of Northside Baptist Church for forty years and has been a member at Eubank Baptist Church for twenty years. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, and he appreciated the beauty of God’s creation and expressed it in his love of working on the farm, raising cattle and gardening. He also loved sharing that with others – taking his grandchildren and great grandchildren around the farm and sharing the harvest from his garden with friends and neighbors.

Lindsey is survived by his son, Darrell (Glenda) Burton of Somerset; three grandchildren, Stacey Burton, Monica (Clay) Hall, and Eric (Kelly) Burton; twenty one great grandchildren, Austin (Makenzie) Jones; Aidan Baker; Savannah, Mary-Grace, Braidon, Susanah, Amy, Angel, Gabe, and Malakai Burton, My’Chaz and Mi’Yonah Hickman-Shipp; Abigail, Catherine, Elisabeth, Samuel, Silas, and Lydia Hall; Willa Kate, Sullivan, and Milo Burton; several nieces and nephews, extended family, church family, neighbors, and friends who are saddened by his passing.

Along with his parents, Arthur and Tressa Burton; and his wife, Earlene Ard Burton; Lindsey was preceded in death by four brothers, Henley, Linville, Larry, and Thurman (Betty) Burton; and three sisters, Geneva (Bert) Deatherage, Areva (G.C.) Gosser, and Leila (Eugene) Tarter.

Bobbie Jo Holt, age 92, of Somerset, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at Somerwoods Nursing and Rehabilitation.

Bobbie Jo was born on October 12, 1933, in Somerset, Kentucky, to the late Emmett Gilliland and Ethel McKenzie Gilliland. She was proud to be a member of the first graduating class of Pulaski County High School in 1951, a milestone she always cherished.

Bobbie Jo dedicated many years of service as a bookkeeper for the City of Somerset. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and remained deeply involved in her community throughout her life. She was an active member of the Pulaski County Historical Society and the Daughters of the American Revolution (D.A.R.), and she had a true passion for researching her family’s genealogical history. Her love for preserving the past reflected her deep appreciation for family and heritage.

Known throughout the Somerset community, Bobbie Jo will be remembered for her warm and jovial personality, her generous heart, and the genuine kindness she showed to everyone she met. She treasured her family, valued her friendships, and found great joy in being involved in the community she loved so dearly.

Bobbie Jo leaves behind her special friend and partner in life, Paul “Dink” Hinkle; her nieces and nephews, Suzanne Richie Kidd, Melissa Horton Oliver, and Curtis Gilliland, Jr., all of Somerset; Ernest Gilliland of Burnside, Kentucky; Michael Wells of Quincy, Florida; Nancy Wells Ottaway of Crestview, Florida; and Richard Wells of Whitley City, Kentucky. She is also survived by several beloved great-nieces and great-nephews, along with her cherished church family, neighbors, and many dear friends who will deeply miss her presence.

In addition to her parents, Bobbie Jo was preceded in death by one infant son, Madison Emmett Holt; her brothers and sisters, Curtis Gilliland, Dean G. Wells, Lucille G. Horton, Maxine G. Hinkle, and Linville E. Gilliland “Junior”; two nephews, Gene Gordon Wells and Frank Richie, Jr.; her niece, Sandra Hinkle Griffith; and her great-niece, Lisa Jo Kidd.
