Who We Are

A death in the family is a very sensitive time in everyone's life. During a time of loss, a familiar face can be a very welcome and calming sight. Pulaski Funeral Home and the professional, compassionate staff that make it up are exactly that. Pulaski Funeral Home has been a familiar face in Pulaski County, Kentucky since our founding in 1953. The business was located at 130 South Central Ave., Somerset, KY until 1967, when we moved to our present location at 165 N. When our new building was built, it set several milestones. We were one of the first funeral homes in the area to establish ourselves as a self contained full service funeral facility,. The building was constructed around meeting the needs of those calling upon us for help in a time of loss. The spacious primary funeral chapel was built to hold 225 persons, also the staff are easily able to serve four families at the same time without any one family being in the way of another. Pulaski Funeral Home was also built for those with special needs in mind, it was, and still is, the only funeral establishment in Pulaski Co. KY where not a single step is encountered to get into or out of our facility, also, not a single step is encountered while moving around inside our spacious facility. The Parking lot has doubled in size twice since 1967 to facilitate the ever increasing populace of our county.....it also is level and requires zero special effort for those with special needs. In the past, Pulaski Funeral Home has been there to establish strong traditions with families and the forward thinking of past leadership has helped this firm remain just as strong today. Life is always in flux and change is always a constant. Pulaski Funeral Home has been leader in change and continues to offer traditional as well as the most contemporary services. We are proud to be able to provide these services within the means of every family. Whether you want a traditional service, cremation, green funeral, immediate burial or body donation, our experienced staff, led by the Manager and co-owner, Bruce Phelps are very comfortable meeting each of these needs. Bruce is the most experienced, full time embalmer and funeral director with local ties here in Pulaski County having more than 33 years of service to offer families of Pulaski County. Pulaski Funeral Home has one of the strongest pre-need programs available in Pulaski and surrounding counties, this area is also headed up by Mr. If you are interested in pre-arranging your funeral, all you need to do is call and your final expense needs will be met, whatever those needs may be. Nearly a decade ago, Pulaski Funeral Home was purchased from its previous owners to a younger host of owners with many being local business people with strong local ties. Pulaski Funeral Home is dedicated to providing unequaled compassionate service and quality merchandise to those in need regardless of any family's socio-economic standing. Solid leadership and management skills combined with a very compassionate and caring staff will guarantee Pulaski Funeral Home will be able to provide services in the future, to those who plan today! The same quality that Pulaski County citizens have come to expect and rely upon that was here in the past, is here now, and will be here in the future to serve those in need.

Mary Louise Bales

Mary Louise "Weezie" Roberts Bales, age 79, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 22nd, 2026 in her Valley Oak, Kentucky home. She was born March 10th, 1946 in Cynthiana, Kentucky, a daughter of the late Earl C. and Hattie Six Roberts. Louise was the daughter of a devout Methodist minister, and later became a member of Flat Lick Baptist Church after returning to the Valley Oak area.

When Louise relocated back to the Somerset area in 1983, she accepted a secretary position at Somerset Community College where she spent a year. Louise then dedicated 25 years to Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital, where she started in the administration department, re- relocated to corporate headquarters in Nashville, TN for 3 years to recruit physicians, and finally landed in the maintenance department as the administrative assistant where she took pride in holding her coworkers accountable for cleaning up after themselves.

"Weezie" was a woman who was full of life, personality, and grit. She took on every obstacle that was thrown her way, with ease, including being married to a Captain in the U.S. Air Force while juggling two kids. She loved her family deeply and with pride. She always made sure the ones she loved most were taken care of. She taught her grandchildren to always stand up for themselves and to never back down from a challenge. "Weezie's" grandchildren want to truly thank her for the years she dedicated to them, including all the hair she brushed, the baths she gave, the hours she drove to rush us "here and there". Louise deserved more praise than she ever received in her lifetime.

In addition to her parents, Louise is preceded in death by her brother, Roy Roberts. She is survived by her devoted and loving husband, Gary Wayne Bales, who poured his heart and strength into ensuring her final years were filled with comfort, dignity, and unwavering love.

Furthermore, she is survived by her sister, Janet Roberts Snell; two children, Michael Wayne Bales, Amie Jo (Shaun) Campbell; grandchildren, Codie Wilson, Alexus Wilson, Somerlin Cheek (Logan), and Kathryn (Lucas) Abrell; and great-grandchildren, Jaylex, Allie, and Zavier Wadsworth, Blakely, Jamison Stigall; and many nieces and nephews.

The family of Mary Louise will receive friends on Saturday, February 28, 2026 at the Pulaski Funeral Home from 10:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., with the funeral service to follow. At the funeral home at 1:00 pm.

Interment will be held at Mill Springs Battlefield on March 16 th , 2026 at 10:00 AM.

Doris Jean Farmer

Doris grew up in Somerset, Kentucky, and graduated from Somerset High School. She later received her B.A. in Sociology from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Much of her career was focused on Business and Real Estate. She took great pride in her work, and it showed, but her career was the least interesting part of her life.

Above all, to those who knew her, she was a great, loyal, lifelong friend. She had tremendous love for her furry friends, too! Always looking for an excuse to have a party and dance, she became an avid line dancer and loved going to concerts to see live acts play when she lived in Houston and Atlanta. She was a huge fan of Kentucky Wildcat basketball, and enjoyed the occasional nip of Wild Turkey, usually around Christmastime, and always on Derby Day.

More often than not, she was the most knowledgeable person in the room, as anyone who ever played Trivial Pursuit with her can attest. She loved to travel, too, especially to New York City and Northern California, and made frequent trips to Las Vegas and the Caribbean. A real patriot and lifelong Democrat, Doris volunteered for presidential campaigns, a presidential convention, and received personal thanks for her work from civil rights activist and statesman, John Lewis.

Doris was a quintessential extrovert, with an inexhaustible curiosity. She was interested in everything, but she was truly interested in people, what they did for work, and what they did for fun. When Doris was spending time with you, you were the most important person in the world. She asked you what you thought about things and how you felt about things, and most importantly, she listened to your answers. In that regard, those of us who knew her are never going to meet another person like her. She was one of a kind, and she will be dearly missed.

Doris was preceded in death by her parents, Lowell and Mae Farmer, and her brother, James Farmer. She is survived by her sisters, Lois Farmer and Betty Sears, her nephew, John Daws, her nieces, Tiffany Keith (Dale Keith) and Samantha Farmer, her great-nephew, Elijah Eastham, and her great-niece, Hattie Mae Keith

A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 27, 2026 at 1:00 PM in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home.

The family will receive friends on Friday, February 27, 2026 from 11:00 AM till time for services in the chapel of Pulaski Funeral Home.

Burial will follow in Somerset Cemetery.

Pulaski Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.

Larry Roberts

Larry G. Roberts of Nancy, KY passed away from this life on February 18, 2026 , at Lake Cumberland Regional Hospital having attained the age of 74 years.

He was born February 12, 1952 in Faubush, KY to Harold Ray and Gladys Marie Foster Roberts. They both preceded him in death.

Larry was an avid animal lover. In Lieu of flowers the family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the Somerset - Pulaski County Humane Society, 179 Chris Way, Somerset, KY 42501.

A funeral service for Larry G. Roberts will be held at 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 26th, 2026 at the Chapel of the Pulaski Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Lakeside Memorial Gardens.
