This afternoon, the Massachusetts House passed H.4706 - An Act to improve Massachusetts home care, the home care licensure bill.

The home care licensure legislation is a priority of the Home Care Aide Council. We have been working hard with a broad stakeholder coalition to secure passage of this legislation for several years.

We are grateful for the leadership of Chairman Tom Stanley and the support of the Joint Committee on Aging and Independence for their work on this legislation and we are grateful to the leadership of the House of Representatives for their support.

The Home Care Aide Council supports the creation of a licensure system that would establish baseline standards for home care agencies, to ensure a quality network of providers for home care consumers and keep services affordable for those who rely on them.

Now the bill moves to the Senate for them to act upon it.

Today, the MA Legislature's Joint Committee on Health Care Financing held a hearing on S.870 and H.767, An Act clarifying the rate setting processes for home health and home care services.

Council members Melinda Boulay from Elara Caring and Kristin McHugh, RN of Prime Home Health & Companion Care testified along with Julie Watt Faqir and did a brilliant job testifying to how important it is that the State be transparent in setting rates for home care and home health services.

The Ally Award this year was awarded to The Home Care Alliance of Massachusetts for their commitment to the Enough Pay to Stay Coalition and their assistance to the Council and our joint mission of contributing to the advancement of the home care aide workforce.

Leslie Hammond, Director of Membership & Marketing accepted the award on behalf of the Alliance.

The Scheduler Coordinator of the Year Award was given to Marie Vertilus of Seraphic Springs Health Care Agency for her consideration of clients as well as her effective communication and problem solving skills.

Lisa Gurgone, COO of Mystic Valley Elder Services is the 2024 recipient of the Leadership Award.

The Rookie of the Year is awarded to an individual who is new to the home care industry working as a home care aide for less than two years.

Timothy Pierre of Abernathy Home Care is the 2024 Rookie of the Year.

The Home Health Aide of the Year Award is presented to someone who exemplifies in the combination of commitment, personal care skills and compassion typical Massachusetts home health aides.

The 2024 winner of the HHA of the Year Award is Tujuana Smith of Anodyne.

The Home Care Aide Council held our Annual Home Care Aide Celebration on Thursday, November 7, 2024 at the Pleasant Valley Country Club in Sutton.

The annual event celebrated the dedication and commitment of home care aides throughout the Commonwealth whose work enables so many frail elders and disabled individuals to remain in their own home.

Through seven awards, we recognized the commitment and excellence of home care aides and their allies in support of Massachusetts’ older adults.

In addition to the recognition by the Home Care Aide Council, Lynn Vidler, Senior Director, Operations & Policy, Home Care at the Executive Office of Elder Affairs presented Certificates to the winners on behalf of the State.

In this photo, Lynn is seen with Olga Bartolomeu of Homemaker Services, the Homemaker/PC of the Year, for the outstanding dedication and exceptional skills she brought to the delivery of home care.

The Home Care Aide Council (Council) invites your organization to attend and participate as a sponsor of our Annual Home Care Aide Celebration on Thursday, November 7, 2024.

This event, celebrating the dedication and commitment of home care aides throughout the Commonwealth whose work enables so many frail elders and disabled individuals to remain in their own home, will take place at Pleasant Valley Country Club, 95 Armsby Road in Sutton, from 11:00 – 3 p.m.

Through seven awards, we will recognize the commitment and excellence of home care aides and their allies in support of Massachusetts’ older adults. Bringing attention to this important workforce, while also highlighting those who have achieved excellence in their field, is at the heart of this annual event.
