Creativity, teamwork, and holiday spirit were on full display this month as RWJUH Somerset’s Somerset Strong Committee hosted a Scrub Top Decorating Contest 🎨✨

Departments from across the hospital showcased their creativity by decorating scrub tops with festive words, uplifting messages, and holiday cheer—while thoughtfully incorporating one or more of our hospital values. The finished designs were proudly displayed along the windows of the Tarantino Promenade, where staff cast their votes.

With a total of 268 votes cast, congratulations to our Top 3 departments:
🥇 Lab (scrub top #3)
🥈 Radiology (scrub top #12)
🥉 EVS (scrub top #7)

Thank you to everyone who participated and voted—your creativity and commitment to our values truly made this contest special!

For 54 years (and counting!), Elpidio C. has proudly served Monmouth Medical Center so it's no surprise that the hospital's coordinator, Environmental Services, is so well known there that he's called "the mayor!" It was a humble start at Monmouth half a century ago for this native of Puerto Rico. Today, with a grateful heart, Elpidio shares with Mark E. Manigan, President and CEO RWJBarnabas Health, how much he's learned and why it's always about people in our latest episode of "Look At Me Now."

On December 18, RWJUH Somerset’s Wound Resource Committee proudly hosted our first “Winter Wounderland” —an engaging, self-paced educational experience designed to strengthen staff knowledge and best practices in wound care.

Educational posters lined the Tarantino Promenade, covering key topics such as pressure injury prevention, wound identification and treatment, documentation standards, and wound photography. Team members were able to stop by, learn at their own pace, and engage in meaningful discussions.

Special thanks to Denise Gerhab, BSN, RN, WCC, who was on hand from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. providing expert guidance and answering questions throughout the day. Thank you to everyone who helped make this first Winter Wounderland a success!

This holiday season, RWJUH Somerset was proud to support over 50 local families through our Adopt-A-Family initiative. Thanks to the incredible generosity of our employees, we were able to provide grocery store gift cards to help ease the season for families in our community.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed. Led by our Community Health Department and made possible in partnership with the Somerset County Board of Social Services, this annual program reflects what we can accomplish when we come together to care for our neighbors.
