Pausing is a simple yet powerful skill.

In moments of stress or conflict, our first instinct is often to react quickly. But taking even a few seconds to pause can help you slow down, think more clearly, and respond in a way that actually reflects what you’re feeling.

A pause can look like taking a breath, stepping away, or saying “I need a minute.”

And remember: pausing is a SKILL. Something to learn. Practice. Teach our kids. And practice some more. It’s not inherent.

The way we say things matters.

In moments of stress or conflict, it’s easy to fall into blame, defensiveness, or shutting down. But small shifts in language can change the direction of a conversation.

Clear, respectful communication helps others understand us, and helps us stay connected.

We love this quote by the Dalai Lama. It emphasizes that happiness isn’t something we stumble into. It’s something we build through intentional actions.

It’s also a reminder that joy can be found even in hard moments if we are intentional about building it.

The way we care for ourselves, the boundaries we set, the thoughts we challenge, the connections we invest in… it all adds up.

Small, intentional actions and habits can create meaningful change.

The way you talk to yourself matters.

Your mind is constantly listening, shaping how you feel, how you cope, and how you see yourself. Being “kind to your mind” isn’t just a nice idea, it’s a practice!

Noticing your thoughts. Challenging harsh self-talk. Making space for rest. Offering yourself the same compassion you give to others.

Small shifts in how you treat your mind can have a powerful impact on your mental health. Try it today!

We are excited to introduce you to Jen!

Jen has been counseling since 1995, working with adolescents, young adults, and adults. She first joined Buxmont in 2008 and returned in 2022, bringing decades of experience supporting clients through anxiety, self-esteem challenges, and struggles related to nutrition and food.

Jen also has a heart for those navigating the pain of loved ones who have strayed from their faith. Her approach is rooted in biblical principles, offering guidance that supports both emotional and spiritual growth.

What she loves most is meeting people where they are and helping them recognize their worth, purpose, and path toward healing.
