Our emergency departments are currently experiencing an increase in visits related to flu and other respiratory illnesses.

If you’re feeling sick with mild to moderate symptoms, the emergency department may not be necessary—and there are other care options that can help you feel better sooner.

Additionally, in response to the increase in flu activity, hospitals and healthcare systems are enforcing masking guidance and infection prevention measures across care settings to help protect patients, visitors, and staff from the spread of flu and respiratory illnesses, including COVID-19 and RSV.

Patients with flu-like symptoms such as coughing, sneezing, fever, or a runny nose are required to wear a mask and notify the front desk upon arrival at provider offices, urgent care centers, and emergency departments. This requirement applies even if the patient has received their annual flu vaccine.

UPDATE: Sentara Halifax Regional Hospital is currently recovering from a water supply disruption caused by a water line break in the town’s system overnight. The break has been repaired, and water service to the hospital has been restored. Patient care has continued uninterrupted throughout this process.

Sentara Cares was honored to serve as a supporting sponsor of the Truckers for a Cause parade held at the Halifax County Fairgrounds on November 8, 2025. We are grateful for the opportunity to stand alongside an organization so deeply committed to supporting our community.
