Abraxas Home Care Expands with Shannon’s Place and The BB Legacy Center
Two new programs honor powerful family legacies while expanding services and advocacy for individuals with disabilities across Central Virginia.
Chesterfield, VA — October 17, 2025 — Abraxas Home Care proudly announces two transformative additions to its family of programs: Shannon’s Place and The BB Legacy Center. Both serve as powerful symbols of the agency’s continued growth, compassion, and commitment to inclusive care.
As a licensed provider under the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Services (DBHDS), Abraxas Home Care continues to lead in providing exceptional, person-centered supports—including residential, day support, community engagement, and transportation services—throughout Chesterfield, Hopewell, and surrounding communities.

Shannon’s Place: A Home Rooted in Love and Independence
Named in loving memory of Shannon Lee Cox, a devoted mother, grandmother, and lifelong advocate for individuals with support needs, Shannon’s Place represents the next generation of residential care.
Located in Chesterfield’s prestigious Highlands community, the 4,500-square-foot home offers an independent-living model with 24-hour Direct Support Professional (DSP) availability and nurse consultation as needed. Each of the four private suites includes a bedroom, bathroom, and sitting area—designed to give residents both independence and the comforts of home.
Mission of Shannon’s Place:
To provide women with intellectual and developmental disabilities a safe, stable, and empowering home that promotes independence, dignity, and community connection. Shannon’s Place is a place of belonging and growth—where every woman is supported to live with purpose and pride.

The BB Legacy Center: Advocacy, Leadership, and Love
The BB Legacy Center, located beside the John Randolph Foundation in downtown Hopewell, will serve as both the corporate headquarters and a therapeutic community hub for Abraxas Home Care.
This 2,000-square-foot facility is named in honor of Brenda “BB” Adkins, the late great-aunt of Dustin Wade, Director of Operations at Abraxas Home Care. Brenda was a fierce advocate and lifelong champion for inclusion, working as the Parent Resource Director for Hopewell City Schools. She devoted her career to ensuring that children with disabilities were not only educated but embraced as full members of their communities.
Her passion for advocacy was personal—she fought for her son with cerebral palsy to have access to the same opportunities as his peers, and later partnered with the CP Center in Richmond to extend her reach and influence. Brenda passed away from Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS), but her tireless spirit lives on through this new center.
The BB Legacy Center will carry forward her mission by offering space for training, family resources, and therapeutic programming, serving as a hub of empowerment for individuals, families, and professionals alike.
“These new additions are more than buildings—they are symbols of heart and hope,” said Dustin Wade, Director of Operations at Abraxas Home Care. “Both Shannon and Brenda dedicated their lives to helping others. Through this expansion, we ensure their legacies live on in every act of care, every life touched, and every barrier broken.”

Empower individuals to live with choice, confidence, and purpose.
Provide safe, nurturing environments that reflect dignity and belonging.

Honor the legacies of advocates who paved the way for inclusion and equality.
These two new programs mark a defining moment in Abraxas Home Care’s growth—celebrating legacy, love, and leadership while continuing to build a more inclusive Virginia.
