The Duxbury Speech Clinic is proud to announce complimentary speech and language screenings for the month of November for children aged 2 to 7. A speech-language screening is a brief (approximately 15 minutes) and simple process conducted by a Pediatric Speech-Language Pathologist. The screening itself does not diagnose a child, but rather identifies those children who may benefit from a more thorough and formal Speech-Language Evaluation. Speech and language development is important for learning and communicating with others. Early identification and intervention make a significant difference in a child’s future success. Please contact jackiejewett@duxburyspeechclinic.com or www.duxburyspeechclinic.com to reserve a spot.

Do you have concerns about your child’s speech and language development?
Does your child lack interest or appear frustrated when trying to communicate?
Do strangers have difficulty understanding your child?
Are the use (expressive language) and understanding (receptive language) of words, phrases, and sentences) consistent with that of their peers?
Are you concerned that your child may not be meeting their speech and language developmental milestones?
If you have answered yes to any of the above questions, the Duxbury Speech Clinic wants to help!

Today I flew from Boston to Indianapolis as I am walking the JDRF walk in downtown Indy tomorrow. During my 2 hr flight, I decided to practice all my new ASL signs that Chris Robertson taught last night at the Baby Sign class. Of course I tried to do the signs on the down low but my seat mate and aisle mate may have wondered why my hands were so twitchy and why all the strange facial expressions🤣.

I want to give a huge shout out to Chris Robertson for teaching the class last night. The community turn out was great. Chris is a natural teacher keeping us engaged and and actively participating. She also provided the entire class with materials to continue learning on our own time. Chris, thank you for your time, dedication, and being a wonderful community resource. I hope to work with you again in the future.

Just a reminder that the free Baby's First Signs class, to promote early communication with infants and toddlers, is next Thursday, October 20th at 7pm. Duxbury High School American Sign Language teacher, Chris Robertson, will teach common vocabulary to communicate with young children. Research shows that babies and toddlers introduced to sign language accelerates speech and language development, it improves parent/child bonding, and it allows nonverbal children to communicate vital information, such as being sick or hungry.
