🎉 Executive Functioning in Action! 🧠
One of our student participated in a party-planning activity where he created a plan, made a supply list, estimated quantities, researched prices, and counted out the money needed to pay for his party 💰🎈
This fun, real-life activity works on planning, organization, problem-solving, and budgeting skills—all key executive functioning skills!
✨ Try this at home: Have your child plan a small party or event, make a shopping list, compare prices, and practice handling money in a meaningful way.

Cutting on a vertical surface has powerful developmental benefits!

✂️ Supports functional positioning: Working on a vertical surface promotes a more neutral forearm position and wrist extension, helping reduce pronated grasp patterns often seen in children with low muscle tone. Keeping the task within the child’s visual field also helps reduce compensatory postures and improves finger control.

✂️ Builds proximal stability: Vertical cutting activates shoulder and core muscles, strengthening postural control that supports refined hand movements.

✂️ Encourages bilateral coordination: One hand stabilizes the paper while the other cuts, promoting coordinated use of both hands.

✂️ Improves focus and attention: Adding fun doodles or visuals increases engagement, making it easier for children to sustain attention during the task.

These foundational skills directly support higher-level activities like handwriting, classroom tasks, and daily self-care! 🤗

Here are some fun ways to practice toileting skills with your child at home! 🤗

Clothespins: Simply clip pins onto the back of your child’s shirt of pants. Have them reach back and take the pins off one by one.

Dry erase board: Doodle on a dry erase board and have your child reach behind them to erase it. You can even use a white napkin so that they have a visual of the dirt they are wiping.

Squiz: Place squigz on a surface and place them behind your child. Have them take the squiz off and place them in a bin in front of them. This mimics the act of placing items in the trash.

All of these activities can be done while seated on a regular chair but you can add a foam pad or yoga ball to engage the core. These are great for motor control/coordination, balance, mobility, and building strength- all necessary skills for potty time!
