Repeating letter X 🤪as can’t resist to share with you all this fun activity
X is for X: X-Ray Vision… OT style! 🩻

This simple illusion activity turns art + science into a hands-on way to build important developmental skills. ✨

🎨 Drawing & Coloring the Image
• Fine motor control
• Pencil grasp development
• Hand strength & endurance
• Visual-motor integration
• Motor planning and attention to detail
✍️ Tracing the Important Lines
• Precision and graded pressure control
• Visual discrimination (identifying key features)
• Hand-eye coordination
• Executive functioning and planning
🧠 Preparing the Bag & Setting Up the Experiment
• Bilateral coordination
• Sequencing multi-step directions
• Problem solving and task organization

Functionally, this supports classroom participation - writing, drawing, following directions, completing projects, and engaging in hands-on learning tasks. Activities like this strengthen the foundation for academic success while keeping learning playful and motivating.

Happy OT Month! Stay tuned for tomorrow’s letter

Today’s Letter is W for Wall Activities

Vertical surface activities are an OT favorite because they naturally promote postural activation, shoulder stability, and coordination while keeping kids engaged in movement.

✨ Skills addressed across these wall activities:
• Core activation & postural control
• Shoulder and proximal stability needed for fine motor precision
• Bilateral coordination (hands and feet working together with different roles)
• Crossing midline
• Motor planning & sequencing
• Balance and body awareness
• Visual-motor integration and spatial awareness
• Graded force control and coordination

🧘🏻‍♀️ Holding the yoga ball against the wall challenges dynamic stabilization while reaching outside the base of support - strengthening the core and shoulders while encouraging coordinated hand use.

🥎 Wall ball rolling with the hands targets controlled movement, visual tracking, and wrist/shoulder endurance, all foundational for handwriting and tabletop work.

🏐 Wall ball rolling with the feet adds core strength, lower-body coordination, and motor control, helping develop body awareness and overall postural stability.

Functionally, these activities promote better endurance for writing, improved sitting posture at school, coordinated use of both hands during dressing and play, and greater efficiency with everyday tasks that require reaching, stabilizing, and controlled movement.

Make sure to stay tuned to our last few days of OT Month! 🤗

Today’s Letter is S is for Stabilization ✂️

Cutting is a complex fine motor skill that requires distinct roles for each hand. The dominant hand operates the scissors, while the assisting hand stabilizes, rotates, and advances the paper. When children struggle with cutting accuracy, it is often due to difficulty coordinating this stabilizing hand.

Draw small dots next to the cutting line and have the child place their thumb on each dot as they cut. The dots provide a clear visual and proprioceptive cue for where the helper hand belongs, promoting organized hand placement and smoother paper advancement.
Skills addressed:
• Bilateral coordination (one hand manipulates while the other stabilizes)
• Hand separation and role differentiation
• Visual-motor integration
• Motor planning and sequencing
• Graded force control
• In-hand paper rotation
• Sustained attention and task organization

Functional connection:
Stabilization skills extend far beyond cutting. Children use the same motor pattern when holding paper while writing, opening containers, managing clothing fasteners, completing crafts, using utensils, and participating in classroom tasks. Improving stabilization builds efficiency, accuracy, and independence in everyday occupations.
