31-weeks pregnant and diagnosed with placenta previa, Danielle Hayes was bleeding and scared. Winter Storm Fern could not stop her from getting to VCU Health Community Memorial Hospital. At the door, she was met by a few members of a system-wide maternity care team that admitted and prepped her for an emergency c-section.

What happened next was nothing short of beautiful team work, to keep 3 pound, 9 ounce baby Kamyrn alive and thriving. His journey to the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, 80 miles away, is full of unstoppable heroes.

Today, we’re charting a new course as we continue honoring the certified nurses across VCU Health—professionals whose commitment to excellence anchors the care we provide every day.

Certified nurses don’t just bring knowledge—they bring endurance, curiosity, and an unwavering drive to keep growing in their craft. Their dedication strengthens our teams, elevates patient outcomes, and helps us navigate even the most challenging waters with confidence and compassion.

As we sail through this week of recognition, we’re celebrating not just the certifications themselves, but the heart, purpose, and resilience behind them. Every exam studied for, every skill sharpened, every standard raised—it all makes a meaningful difference.

To all our certified nurses: thank you for leading with expertise, passion, and unwavering commitment. You keep our mission steady and our future bright.

Stay tuned—more celebrations and spotlights are on the horizon! 🌊⚓

A BIG congratulations to our latest BEE Award winner, Sibyl Martin! Sibyl is a Patient Care Technician in our ICU and was nominated by a patient's family member during a medical emergency.
🐝 Her nomination stated: "Sibyl demonstrated exceptional skill, compassion, and professionalism. She performed CPR and played a critical role in saving his life. Her calm, confident presence and rapid actions made all the difference in the most terrifying moment our family has ever experienced. What makes Sibyl truly remarkable is that her care did not end in the ER. She continued to care for him while he was in the ICU, ensuring that he was safe, comfortable, and receiving the highest level of attention. She consistently advocated for him when we needed it most, communicating clearly, anticipating needs, and making sure our family felt supported and informed. I firmly believe that he would not be here today if it were not for Sibyl and the amazing team working alongside her."

It was a perfect morning for a surprise landing! LifeEvac 5 staff hosted an impromptu helicopter ops session with Mecklenburg County High School and Southside Virginia Community College Dual Enrollment EMT students.
Bev and Tony took the classroom to the helipad, giving students a deep dive into:
• Aviation Safety: From tail rotors to radio comms.
• Critical Care: Flight-level patient care and safe medication practices.
• Career Paths: How to become a flight medic or nurse.
We love seeing our local students get inspired by the pros! 🚁❤️
