Some ways to honor your loved one on their birthday, an anniversary date, holiday and more...
- Bring flowers to their final resting place, or simply go for a visit
- Listen to a voicemail they've left you or a video recording
- Do one of their "favorites" - watch a movie, attend their church, grab a scoop or two of their favorite ice cream
- Get creative - make art, sing, play an instrument
- Send part of their cremated remains to be made into a tree, jewelry, etc.
- Write them a letter
- Make a donation in their honor

Although not all veterans grieve in the same way, sometimes the unique conflict situation veterans face and their inability to take time off to grieve the loss of a fellow service member, frequently brings on specific instances of survivor guilt and traumatic grief. Survivor guilt can be very intense for veterans, in fact it is most common among veterans diagnosed with Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Traumatic grief occurs when a loss is sudden, violent, and/or completely unexpected. This kind of grieving can also extend into physical pain, mental anxiety, and stress disorders. This is a good question to ask. We like to be upfront about embalming. Embalming is not required by law, except in a few special circumstances. In nearly all cases, you do not have to embalm.
