I had a very disturbing conversation with someone this morning about their experience at a mainstream ketamine clinic.
For 6 treatments $350 ($2,100 total)
They were taken to a back room because all the rooms were filled up.
They were given a ketamine injection and then were left alone, laying on a table with no medical supervision.
Their sibling was there with them and saw them have a bad reaction…try to call for help…. No one came.
After their hour was up they were wheeled in a chair to their car and sent home.
This is beyond irresponsible of this clinic.
This is what I mean by paying a doctor to get high in their office.
They are capitalizing on the fad of ketamine with no understanding or respect for the proper ketamine assisted process or the client’s wellbeing let alone results.
Ketamine can be a street drug. People using ketamine recreationally are not seeing massive mental health improvements, they merely experience a somewhat extended high. These doctors are offering the exact same experience as street ketamine, particularly if they are not providing medical oversight for safety.
Ketamine is a facilitator to a therapeutic process. Deep mind-body recalibration therapy should be 95% of the process, with ketamine being the last little 5% boost to increase a sense of temporary wellness while the glutamate boost primes the brain for the therapeutic process to have a stronger effect than usual.
Ketamine assisted therapy should have preparation prior and integration after.
The ketamine portion of the session should be 1/4 of the full session, happening between mind-body alignment and deep/midbrain reprocessing.
It should happen in a cozy, home like environment with both medical and therapeutic attention 100% focused on one client at a time.
I urge doctors, nurses, anesthesiologist, dermatologists, etc to not prescribe ketamine just because you can. Feel free to contact me for training (I have been trained through PRATI and MAPS on top of being a complex trauma specialist).
I urge clients to not attend and support these types of clinics.
Highly specialized clinics that do it right do cost more. This is because they invest in knowing more professionally, experiencing more personally, and providing real results.
Please don’t risk your mental and physical wellbeing by going for cheap over at least competent, at best specialized.
Clinics: please don’t capitalize on people’s pain by providing fad care you are not qualified for or committed to implementing properly.
