📣 Join the Inclusive Community Advocacy Council! 🔔

The Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey has launched the Strengthening Inclusive Leadership Initiative (SILI).
funded by the Inclusive Healthy Communities (IHC) grant program. The Inclusive Community Advocacy Council (ICAC) will help guide and support the initiative.

Building on SHA’s previous success with its IHC funded Integrated Community Project (ICP), the SILI will address the underrepresentation of individuals with disabilities on Advisory Boards/Board of Directors of nonprofit and other organizations in New Jersey and the interest in expanding representation. These empowering practices will support inclusion and show organizations statewide the meaningful impacts that are possible when we strive to represent everyone at the table.

The Supportive Housing Association of New Jersey's current and former staff and board join together in honoring the life of Ed Murphy, who passed away over the weekend. Serving the organization in multiple ways for over 20 years, Ed's leadership as Executive Director during SHA's first years built a foundation and community that sustains our mission today. Ed's initiatives with SHA facilitated new ways to connect and communicate around supportive housing, employing technology and building spaces where stakeholders from every region could work on improving supportive housing opportunities.

Living a life of care for his community, Ed's previous work included serving at St. Aloysius Parish in Jersey City before leaving the priesthood to earn an M.A. in Human Relations from New York University. Before joining SHA he served nearly three decades as the Executive Director of the Mental Health Association of Union County. Ed's calling to be an advocate for others was clear to all who knew him, which included celebrating him as a recipient of SHA's Cornerstone Award.

His legacy follows his commitment to enhance lives and ensure that safe, affordable, and supportive homes are available to all in need. We honor all that he accomplished and will work to continue his efforts that helped change many lives for the better.

The Supportive Housing Association of NJ expresses deep gratitude to Diane Riley for eight years of exemplary, dedicated service leading the organization as our Executive Director. In 2025, Diane will transition to a consulting role within SHA focusing on guiding projects for the organization. SHA’s current Associate Executive Director, Kate Kelly, has worked closely with Diane to take on the duties of Executive Director starting in January. Please join SHA’s staff and Board of Trustees celebrating Diane’s accomplishments as we all work together moving into the new year!
