✨ Why a 504 Plan Matters for Students with Type 1 Diabetes ✨

A 504 plan helps ensure your child with T1D is safe, supported, and included at school. It’s a legal document that outlines how teachers, nurses, and staff will help manage things like blood sugar checks, snacks, insulin dosing, and absences for medical care. 💉🍎

Every child deserves a learning environment where their health needs are met and they can focus on being a kid — not their diabetes. 💙

What else did you add to your students 504 plan?

Please, when you visit the education center, please take a peek of the beautiful mural in our “Quiet room” (as long as it is not being used).
I reached out to friend, Leah Hersom, who has an amazingly talented daughter and ask if she thinks Zoey would like to try her hand at a wall mural at the center? She did not hesitate and did not disappoint! We love it!❤️
Here is Zoey’s bio:

Zoey Hersom is a 14-year-old artist from South Paris, Maine, who absolutely loves to draw and create. Art has always been her favorite way to express herself — whether it’s sketching characters, painting colorful scenes, or bringing her imagination to life in new ways.

This year, she took her creativity to the next level by painting a mural for a local educational center in Poland, ME — a place she’s always loved, dedicated to teaching people about animals. Her artwork now brightens the space and celebrates her love for both art and nature.

As a young artist on the autism spectrum, Zoey sees the world through a unique and beautiful lens. Her passion, focus, and creativity shine through in everything she makes, inspiring those around her to see the joy and color in every day.”

🌈 The Light We Grow Co-op — Lighting the Way for Little Voices! 🌞

Hi friends! I’m so excited to share something truly special that’s growing right here in our community — The Light We Grow Co-op! 💛

This co-op is something I’ve been dreaming of for my daughter, Chloe, and for other amazing kiddos who need a little extra support finding their voice and connecting with others. It’s a parent-led play and learning group for children ages 2–5, especially those who are autistic, nonverbal, or have developmental differences.

Our mornings together are built around love, laughter, and learning through play — not pressure. Here’s a peek at what a day at The Light We Grow Co-op looks like:

✨ Sensory Welcome Time — As families arrive, children can explore calm, engaging sensory activities like water bins, playdough, textured materials, and soft music. It’s a peaceful start that lets everyone settle in.

🎶 Circle Time — We gather together for songs, stories, and movement — using visual supports, gestures, and modeling to include every child’s way of communicating.

🎨 Hands-On Activity — Each week we’ll do something new! Think finger painting, nature walks, sensory bottles, obstacle courses, or group art projects that encourage turn-taking, sharing, and fun!

🍎 Snack & Social Time — A simple shared snack where we model social skills, communication, and community — all while enjoying time together.

💬 Parent Connection Moments — While little ones play, we’ll have time to chat about strategies that support communication and emotional growth at home — because this is about helping each other grow too.

🌿 Goodbye Circle — We end with music, bubbles, or dance — leaving on a happy note!

Each month we’ll have a theme — from “Getting to Know You” to “Exploring Our Senses” to “Our Voices, Our Way.” Every activity supports connection, communication, and confidence. 🌻

The best part? It’s community-driven, created by parents, for parents — a space where we lift each other up and celebrate every small step together.

We’re looking for a few more families to join this new journey with us. If you’ve been wishing for a kind, understanding space where your child can learn and shine — this is it. 🌈

📅 Ages: 2–5 years
📍 Location: (Community Center — pending confirmation)
💛 Led by: Parents who believe love and play are the best teachers

If you’d like to join us or learn more, comment below or message me! Let’s make something truly beautiful together for our kids.

With love and light,
Amanda
