I’m switching things up this year in my Mindful Tweens & Teens PDX classes 🌿

After participating in a mindfulness tour at the Portland Japanese Garden last year, I was so inspired that I decided to make it part of our Spring session. I truly can’t think of a more beautiful place to practice present-moment awareness.

We’ll be spending our final week together on a field trip to the garden — slowing down, noticing, breathing, and integrating everything we’ve learned.

Early bird pricing ends tomorrow.
I’d love to welcome your tween or teen this Spring 💙

Mindful Tweens PDX – Spring 2026 Enrollment is Open!

If you’re parenting a 10–13 year old, you know this stage can be tender, intense, and full of growth. 💛

Mindful Tweens PDX is a six-week experiential workshop designed to help tweens build real-life skills for navigating big feelings, social dynamics, and the increasing pressures of growing up, all in a warm, supportive community.

Rather than telling kids to “just calm down,” we teach them how.

What Your Tween Will Practice:
• Understanding what’s happening in their brain and body during big emotions
• Practical tools for anxiety, stress, and overwhelm
• Mindful movement and grounding practices
• Skills for navigating friendships with more confidence and clarity
• Healthy awareness around tech and social media
• Self-compassion and inner resilience

This group is interactive, creative, and developmentally attuned. We blend discussion, movement, mindfulness practices, and engaging activities so tweens can experience the tools rather than just hearing about them.
No prior mindfulness experience needed. Just curiosity and a willingness to try something new.

A photo from one of my walks at the Menucha Retreat Center in the Columbia River Gorge.

I’m so grateful I got to take part in the Peace in Schools mindfulness retreat last month. I came away feeling inspired and deeply thankful that I get to teach mindfulness and self-compassion practices to young people.

What a gift. 🌊💙

(And if you have a tween or teen who could benefit from these tools, Mindful Tweens & Teens PDX is open for registration.)

Mindful Teens PDX – Spring 2026 Registration is Open!

The teen years can be a lot — academically, socially, emotionally. Many teens are carrying more than we realize.

Mindful Teens PDX is a six-week, in-person workshop designed to give teens practical tools for navigating stress, identity, relationships, and the growing demands of adolescence — all within a thoughtful, supportive community.

What Teens Will Explore & Practice:

• How stress actually works in the brain and body
• Tools for anxiety, overwhelm, and emotional regulation
• Mindful movement and grounding practices
• Building confidence and self-compassion
• Navigating friendships, family dynamics, and social pressure
• Using technology and social media with more awareness and intention

Each session blends guided mindfulness, discussion, experiential activities, and space for authentic conversation. Teens are invited to show up exactly as they are — no prior experience needed.

Groups are intentionally small to create safety, connection, and room for meaningful participation.

I’m excited to be offering this online training with my colleague, Dr. Caroline Carter, at the Institute for Girls’ Development this Friday!

Together, we’ll share a brain-based framework—grounded in The Whole-Brain Child model by Dr. Dan Siegel and Dr. Tina Payne Bryson—for supporting transgender and gender expansive kids. We’ll look at how integration helps children feel secure in their identities, and how blocks like gender dysphoria and minority stress can be addressed using whole-brain strategies that promote growth and resilience.

This workshop is designed for parents, clinicians, educators, and allied professionals who want to deepen their understanding of gender development and learn practical tools for helping TGNB youth thrive.

✨ It was an absolute pleasure to present ideas from our upcoming book to the brilliant team at the Center for Connection ().

Our talk, An Introduction to Whole-Brain Integration in Trans and Nonbinary Youth, explored how integration supports resilience, safety, and wholeness for young people.

Deep gratitude to Dr. Tina Payne Bryson, Founder & Executive Director of the CFC, Hanna Novak, Director of the CFC, and the entire team for your warm welcome and thoughtful engagement. It was an honor to be with you in such a beautiful space of learning and care. 💜

📚 Stay tuned here for updates on our book and opportunities to connect!

As legislation continues to target trans youth, I didn’t want Pride Month to pass without naming this: trans kids belong. Their identities are not up for debate. They deserve safety, dignity, access to affirming health care, and the full freedom to be themselves.

We attended two Pride festivals this past weekend and look forward to attending Portland Pride in July. Hope to see some of you there!

Happy Pride to the LGBTQIA+ community and all the amazing allies who show up with love and support. 🌈💛🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍🌈💜

🏳️‍⚧️ Today on Trans Day of Visibility, let’s take a moment to honor and uplift gender expansive youth.

💙 They deserve to be seen, heard, and supported — not just today, but every day.

💗 As we practice showing up with presence and compassion, let’s remember that visibility isn’t just about being noticed — it’s about being understood, affirmed, and safe.

🤍 Let’s keep creating spaces where trans kids can be their authentic selves and feel a true sense of belonging—something we’re all deserving of.

I have arrived. I am home. ✨🕊

These words by Thich Nhat Hanh remind us that home isn’t a place—it’s a presence. When we pause, breathe, and return to this moment, we arrive back to ourselves, our breath, our body, and our lives—just as they are.

So often, we rush through life—caught up in plans, worries, distractions. But what if home was simply here and now? What if, instead of searching for peace somewhere outside of us, we realized it’s been within us all along?

Each breath is an arrival. Each moment is an invitation to come home to yourself. 💙

In our mindfulness class, we painted and decorated these beautiful birdhouses, creating little sanctuaries for our feathered friends. ❄️💛

This project was more than just an art activity—it was a lesson in creativity, kindness, and connection to nature.

As we painted, we practiced being present, letting our minds settle into the rhythm of color, brushstrokes, and imagination.

And just like these birdhouses provide shelter and warmth, mindfulness helps create a sense of home within ourselves—a space where we can return to calm, kindness, and awareness no matter what’s happening around us.

May we all build little homes—for birds, for each other, and within ourselves. 💙🐦
