Quick thought! I am a therapist that works with women. I have learned that women, especially people of color, do not have a very good emotional vocabulary. We can share our thoughts and our opinions, but we don’t really know “feeling words”. We were not taught to consider or to explore our feelings because it meant vulnerability or weakness. There’s no time for that! I want to give you the permission to feel your feelings. There’s time for your feelings. Your feelings matter. Unravel for a moment if that’s what you need. Feelings are not just vulnerability it’s part of humanity. Feel your feelings. If nobody gives you permission, I want you to know that I do.

This is for the girl. This is for the woman. This is for they/them. You don’t know how brave you are for sitting on this couch. You are braver than most! You come for 50 minutes and you tell your story. Sometimes you cry and sometimes you laugh. Each session you show up ready to face YOU. Everyone is not brave enough to face themselves, but you, you give it all you’ve got even when you’re visibly afraid. I see it in your eyes, but I want you to know that I’m proud of you and you’re one of the bravest people that I know. It’s an honor to sit across from you while you tell me your story and while you tell YOU your story.

We had to become a version of ourselves in order to survive the trauma that we experienced. We had to find a way to physically, emotionally, and mentally keep ourselves safe. We may have become a person that we are not proud of or a person that we can’t even recognize. Trauma changes us from the inside out. You don’t have to be this person always. You are not your trauma. It happed to you but it’s not you. There is so much power in choosing who you want to be as you heal. 💜

It’s difficult to admit that we have emotional wounds. It’s way too vulnerable for some of us to acknowledge that these wounds exist. Some of us move through life hiding them or trying to hide from them. We are afraid that are wounds might just speak for us and give us away. Our wounds carry a story and have something to say. The therapy space is the best place to give our wounds a voice to speak their truth so that there is a healthy holding place to foster healing and wholeness. Heal your wounds so that you don’t spend your life hiding them or hiding from them. You are so much more than your wounds. So much more!! 💜

Healing doesn’t come from getting our questions answered. We can create an infinite amount of questions regarding our depression, anxiety, self-esteem, abandonment, and/or trauma (etc), but many of these questions will not be answered. Healing comes with accepting that certain questions will not be answered. We may never know the “why” or the “how”. Questions sometimes keep us hurt focused. Questions sometimes keep us stuck. Healing is in refocusing our energy from our wounds to our purpose and being the best version of ourselves in spite of our unanswered questions. We are more than the sum of unanswered questions. 💜

Our words have power. Life is hard enough on us already, and we can’t afford to beat ourselves down. It’s important for us to manifest something beautiful and meaningful with our words. Let’s speak kindly to ourselves, and let’s make a powerful declaration with our words. What are you saying to yourself? What are you declaring in your life? What are you manifesting in your life?

Quick selfie before a therapy session! It’s a privilege to hold the stories of so many girls and women and watch them overcome so many challenges in the therapy space. It’s not easy to make the decision to start therapy, but I am so honored that you trusted me to help you. Healing is a long and arduous journey, and I’m incredibly grateful that you chose me to travel alongside you. This smile is for all of you! 😊

Everyone needs a sacred place. It can be a room or just a small space. The sacred place is your healing place. It is a dedicated, set apart, and intentional place for you be present with yourself and to show up for yourself in a way that no one else can. You can cry, you can pray, you can meditate, you can read, you can write, you can sip tea, or you can sit in silence. You are who you need in this place. All distractions and negative thoughts are uninvited and not permitted to enter into your sacred place. This your place of peace and healing. Take what you need. It’s your nourishment for the mind, body, and soul. I encourage you take time out of your day, maybe 15 minutes or maybe an hour, to be intentional about abiding in your sacred place. Just “be” in whatever form that is meaningful to you.

Healing has a different meaning for every person. Our wounds are specific to our personal experiences. Some of us have never considered the idea of healing and have succumbed to the notion that we have to live with our wounds, but what if our wounds could heal?

What could healing your wounds mean for you? How would your life change? What does the healed version of you look like? How does the healed “you” show up in the world? How does the healed “you” love? How does the healed “you” dream?

Take your time. Meditate on it. Healing is still possible and it’s not too late.

Healing is a daily choice to intentionally make every effort to care for your mind, your body, and soul. It’s choosing to be gentle and patient, with yourself. It’s learning to say “no” more often and establishing boundaries. It’s letting go of toxic people, places, and things. It’s changing your language to speak kindly of yourself and others. It’s learning your strengths and weaknesses and discovering your power. It’s making the difficult decision to choose yourself more often. It’s about deciding the person that you want to become. It’s finding your balance, your rhythm, and your peace. It’s extending grace to yourself and others. It’s finding God in both the big and small moments. Healing is one of the most important journeys of a lifetime for it is the journey of finding your way to back to yourself. Healing is emotionally expensive but it’s a gift that’s worthy of the cost. Healing changes everything about you.
