We were honored to recognize Christina Fagan as the recipient of the Power of Partnership Award at the 2026 Recovery Ecosystems Conference.
Christina’s journey into prevention and recovery advocacy began after the loss of her son Nicholas to an accidental overdose in 2013. Determined to create change, she founded A Change for Nick, a nonprofit dedicated to supporting individuals and families impacted by addiction while working to reduce stigma and remove barriers to recovery.
Through collaboration with community leaders, organizations, and state partners, Christina helped bring forward the model that sparked the pilot for New Jersey’s Opioid Overdose Recovery Program. Today, she continues this work as Director of the CARES Community Peer Recovery Centers at Prevention is Key.
Christina’s advocacy and collaborative leadership demonstrate how powerful partnerships can drive meaningful change and strengthen recovery support across communities.

Another powerful keynote you won’t want to miss at the 7th Annual Recovery Ecosystems Conference on March 5, 2026 at Seton Hall University.
Dr. Corrie Vilsaint will challenge us to rethink how we approach addiction and recovery through the lens of racial health equity.
This keynote will examine the evolving understanding of substance use disorders, the widening disparities impacting Black and Latinx communities, and what it will take to build equitable public health systems that truly support remission and long-term recovery.
Her message carries throughout the day, with breakout sessions like Who Falls Through First: What Marginalized Recovery Communities Reveal About Systems Gaps, Beyond Enforcement: Building Resilient Communities Through Collaboration, and Opioid Settlement Funds 101: What’s Happening, What’s Possible — all digging deeper into equity, policy, and community-driven solutions.
This is more than a presentation. It’s a call to action for anyone committed to strengthening recovery across New Jersey.

Send a message to New Jersey Coalition for Addiction Recovery Support:
Around the country, communities of recovery have come together to bring additional, improved resources for recovery support services to their states and communities. Now is the time for the New Jersey Recovery Community to stand together and ensure that the expansion of recovery support services in the state is driven by the recovery community.
It is not enough for peers to be front line workers in recovery support. Individuals in recovery should be empowered to take the lead in developing, implementing, and governing these services. By coming together, we strengthen our voice to ensure we are heard by decision-makers, collateral service providers, and, most importantly, individuals struggling with substance use disorders and their loved ones.
CARS is supported through funding awarded to Prevention Links by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) through the Comprehensive Addiction and Recovery Act (CARA), which was signed into law by President Obama in 2016. Building Communities of Recovery (BCOR) is a three-year initiative designed to mobilize resources within and outside of the recovery community to increase the prevalence and quality of long-term recovery support from substance use disorders.
Our Mission
CARS provides an inclusive platform to celebrate the hope of recovery, promote the value of individuals with lived experience, and to incorporate and strengthen recovery support services across the continuum of care for substance use disorders throughout New Jersey.
