🧚May is Mental Health Awareness Month!🧚
A time to Recognize, Reflect, and Renew
As we step into May, a month dedicated to Mental Health
Awareness, we take this opportunity to reflect on the profound connection between mental health and overall well-being. At Huntington City Mission, we recognize that homelessness is not just a physical condition, but one that often carries with it deep emotional, psychological, and mental health challenges.
Each individual who walks through our doors IS MORE than their circumstances- they are human beings with unique stories, struggles, AND strengths. Our Mission has always been to offer not just a place of refuge, but a space where healing, dignity, and hope can be restored. This includes providing on-site mental health therapy by our two full-time therapists, ensuring that those we serve have access to the emotional and psychological support they need to reclaim their lives.
Mental health is an often-overlooked aspect of the homeless experience. Yet, it is critical to acknowledge that trauma, depression, anxiety, and other mental health challenges can both cause and be exacerbated by homelessness. By offering therapeutic support, we empower individuals to break the cycle, addressing the root causes of their struggles and laying the groundwork for a more stable and fulfilling future.
In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, let us stand together in breaking the stigma that surrounds mental health. Let us speak openly about the importance of seeking help, and remind one another that mental health is just as integral to our overall well-being as physical health. This month, we hope to share with our followers many services of Anchor of Hope, the Mission's first dedicated mental health service program that provides on-site support for those experiencing homelessness. Stay tuned! ⚓️
This month- and every month- we celebrate resilience, recovery, and the belief that healing is possible. NO ONE should face mental health challenges alone, and HCM is committed to walking alongside our clients every step of the way.
To those who are struggling, know that you are seen, you are valued, and your mental health matters.
Together, we can build a world where mental health care is accessible to all and no one is left behind.
