Metabolic illness has crescendoed in the 21st century. So have psychiatric symptoms. 🙁

Processed, high-carbohydrate foods full of sugars and seed oils actually reduce the energy the cells have to work with, because glucose (sugar) can be an inefficient form of fuel if it can’t get into your cells. When your cells lack the internal energy they need to function well, symptoms of disease begin to appear. The longer that goes on the more serious it gets.

Do you struggle with symptoms of metabolic dysfunction, like erratic blood sugars, weight gain around the waist plus everywhere else? Depression, anxiety, brain fog? Maybe PTSD, OCD, or bipolar disorder?

We’ve set up a way to help you get the relief you need through Metabolic Psychiatry, including therapeutic carbohydrate restriction with a personalized, whole foods ketogenic diet.

Lori Calabrese, MD extols the far reaching benefits of ketogenic metabolic therapy (KMT) and how it can improve your mood and your health.

When we refer to brain metabolism, we’re talking about the ability of your brain to turn glucose into energy.

We test for the fasting insulin level, which should ideally be under 5. Yes, under 5. (In our practice, we actually run tests to determine your insulin resistance score, which gives you a numbered score if you are insulin resistant.)

Lori Calabrese, MD describes a podcast with Dr. Georgia Ede about how metabolic psychiatry's secret weapon is nutritional ketosis.

Do You Need A for Panic Attacks?

Or maybe just anxiety…and possibly depression? By eating a ketogenic diet, you can enter a state of therapeutic nutritional ketosis. In this state, your brain is empowered to heal and restore balance through a cascade of processes in your liver, your microbiome, and your mitochondria. It can make more GABA, serotonin, and more of those components that help you feel relaxed, at ease, and resilient.

If you struggle with panic attacks and worry, and nothing you’ve tried has helped, call us.

Lori Calabrese, MD shows how a ketogenic diet dismantles panic attacks and anxiety through her Metabolic Psychiatry program, Touchpoints 180™

At the 2026 Boca Symposium for Metabolic Health, I presented a poster that reflected one of the conference’s strongest messages: we understand cardiovascular disease best when we look at physiology, imaging, metabolism, and long-term patterns, not just isolated lab numbers.

Developed alongside research intern Maria Gabriella Da Silva Braga, the presentation sparked meaningful conversations with attendees who shared their own experiences, questions, and insights. Many spoke openly about navigating complex lipid results while seeing real improvements in their metabolic and mental health. The poster created a space for curiosity, honesty, and thoughtful discussion without judgment.

What stood out most was the engagement. Colleagues lingered, asked nuanced questions, and explored how these ideas apply to real clinical decisions. It was a powerful reminder that when medicine moves toward context, collaboration, and individualized care, we make room for better science and better outcomes.

When Teaching Becomes Medicine 🧠

Some sessions teach content. A rare few change how you think. And then there are vanishingly rare ones that change how your brain remembers, how your instincts recalibrate, and how your whole approach shifts — without you even trying. That’s exactly what happened at the brain health symposium led by Annette Bosworth

From jump ropes to interactive exercises, group problem-solving, and real-world case examples, this wasn’t just a lecture — it was learning made physical, emotional, and unforgettable. Attendees didn’t just take notes; they left with a deeper understanding of how the brain adapts, heals, and drives behavior.

Brains can recover, function can improve, and insights from this session will change how clinicians listen, treat, and think about patients — for years to come.

Rethinking Heart Health ❤️

Day 1 at the 2026 Boca Symposium for Metabolic Health completely reframed cardiovascular disease. Experts showed that heart disease isn’t just about cholesterol—it’s driven by metabolism, hormones, and inflammation over decades.

From advanced coronary imaging to hormone therapy, lifestyle, and metabolic interventions, the focus is now on catching problems early and preventing them, not just reacting after a crisis. Insulin resistance, inflammation, and nutrient signaling all play a role in heart rhythm, plaque formation, and overall vascular health—and the good news? Early, targeted strategies can change the course of disease.

For anyone ready to see heart health in a whole new way, this recap highlights the cutting-edge insights from thought leaders reshaping prevention and care.
