12.23.2025 Two babies decides to overlap and share birthdays… East End Midwifery practice “twins”! 👯‍♀️
Nothing like being with one woman and having another call in hot and heavy labor! 😳
Thank you to my (not pictured because she was behind the camera laughing at me roll the tub back up) for holding down the fort in one home while I mad dashed to the other. Thank you to my dear friend and colleague and fellow community midwife Heather of for answering the call to back me up so both the mamas could be cared for! ✨
Community birth is unpredictable, your families are not in one location in different rooms… separate out the word… “come in unity” that was the energy Heather brought and the space Noelle held! 🙏🏻 Catching two little girls and passing them up to their powerful mothers was a wild ride and a precious gift! Also gratitude to the dad that leant me an epic Mickey Mouse T-shirt and some pregnancy leggings 🤣 to run back to catch baby #2!

A few weeks ago I participated in a panel discussion with fellow maternal health and reproductive care providers, hosted by The Southampton Press. It was a dynamic conversation initially about innovation in maternal healthcare. The conversation turned to midwives and how a return to this truly ancient profession as part of the obstetrical team, can have massive positive impacts on the maternal healthcare system in this country. The US ranks 50th among developed countries with regards to maternal morbidity and mortality. The research shows that where midwives provide the greater percentage of care in obstetrics, the maternal morbidity and mortality as well as neonatal rates reduce significantly. The participating physicians acknowledged that re-integrating midwives more fully into the care of the low risk pregnant individual can improve outcomes significantly. Recognizing the vital role midwives can play in improving health outcomes is a path forward to integrating the spectrum of providers that can change the trajectory of maternal health and safety. Who knew an ancient profession could be so innovative! 🫶🏼
