One week after Easter, the tomb was still empty. His disciples saw Him. We may not have seen Him yet- but we believe…
On the Sunday after Easter, Christ appeared to the Apostles in the same Upper Room as He did one week prior on the day of His resurrection. Unlike the last time, “doubting Thomas” is now present. The gospel reading of the day’s mass recounts what took place. In dramatic fashion Saint Thomas is permitted to touch the wounds of Christ, and with his newfound belief in the resurrection he proclaims, “My Lord and my God!” (Jn 20:28). The Lord then instructs all on the importance of believing without seeing: “Jesus said to him, ‘Have you come to believe because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and have believed.’” (Jn 20:29).

What’s so good about Good Friday? Why isn’t the day called Bad or Sad Friday? After all, it’s meant to be a day of sorrowful reflection, not a day of celebration. So where did we get the tradition of calling it “Good”? Some believe it may have originated from the older tradition of calling it “God’s Friday.”
No matter the origin of the name, it’s still appropriate to call the Friday on which Jesus died “good.” Out of Christ’s sacrificial love, He died for our sins. That’s why Good Friday is good. And the great news is that three days later He rose from the grave in victory. Friday

Save the Date -- Baptist Memorial Hospital-DeSoto will be hosting a free baby fair on Saturday, May 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the hospital’s outpatient waiting area on the main floor of the hospital. During the baby fair, moms, dads and other caregivers can learn about car seat and seat belt safety, get healthy pregnancy tips, receive infant CPR information, and learn about breastfeeding, lactation support services and much more. Local vendors, Women’s Pavilion tours, a photo booth, giveaways and prizes will also be featured during the baby fair. Baptist’s nurses, obstetricians, pediatricians and other child health experts will be on hand to answer questions.
