We are continuing to visit member communities across the state to honor the individuals who make a difference in the everyday lives of residents and teams.

🙌 Please join us in celebrating another outstanding person in our field. Last week, Tom Akins visited Penick Village (Southern Pines, NC) to honor Thomas McCain, recipient of a 2026 Service Excellence Award.

Thomas is known for going beyond his immediate role on the housekeeping team, bringing skill, awareness, and collaboration across service areas to better support both residents and co-workers. 👏 Through his charismatic and selfless approach, he builds strong relationships and contributes to a culture grounded in shared values.

His impact does not go unnoticed. Thomas is frequently recognized by residents and team members through “Living the Values” commendations, reflecting the consistency and care he brings to his work each day.

This year, we are expanding how we celebrate. While some honorees will be recognized at our Annual Conference, we are also visiting member communities to bring many of these awards directly to the places where the work happens every day. Because recognition hits differently when it’s shared with the colleagues, residents, and teams who experience that impact firsthand.

Ladies Night out with our COO Carrie at Ironwood Cafe was one for the books! 🍸✨
We enjoyed a delightful evening on the town filled with great drinks, delicious food, and even better company. (Dessert not pictured… because we ate it all 😄)
The service was excellent, the atmosphere was lively, and the other guests were so delightful—we may have even convinced a few gentlemen to consider calling Penick Village home!

It was a BIG day at Penick Village as we celebrated two members of our team who had earned major awards from LeadingAge North Carolina. Tom Akins, President and CEO of LeadingAgeNC was on hand at Penick to present not one, but two awards of excellence to two very deserving team members. Houseman, Thomas McCain, was presented with the award of Service Excellence. CEO, Chip Cromartie, was presented with the Leadership in Excellence award. We could not be prouder of these two individuals who exemplify all that Penick Village stands for and more. This prestigious recognition is one more hallmark of Penick’s work towards being a premier Life Plan community. Join us in congratulating Thomas and Chip!

Our Assisted Living residents were on the move recently and enjoyed a wonderful outing to the Southern Pines Land and Housing Trust, where they attended the UNCG School of Theatre’s production of The Lincoln Sisters of Deckawoo Drive. 🎭

It was a fun and memorable experience for all, filled with laughter and great storytelling. We are so grateful for the incredible community partners who help create meaningful opportunities like this for our residents to enjoy.

Each month, our COO Carrie Dugas takes our ladies out on the town for a special evening together. This past Monday we enjoyed delicious food and drinks at The Sly Fox, along with exceptional service.
The evening was filled with great conversation, plenty of laughter, and wonderful time spent together. Nights like these are a beautiful reminder of the joy of community and friendship. 💛
