Snowstorm Emergency Checklist- Get ready.

BEFORE THE STORM:
• Winterize home: insulation, caulking, weather-stripping.
• Prevent frozen pipes: insulate water lines.
• Inspect heating systems & install CO detectors.
• Stock home emergency kit: food, water, blankets, lights, batteries.
• Prepare vehicle: service systems, winter wipers, emergency car kit.
• Keep gas tank full; plan warming centers & family contacts.

DURING THE STORM:
• Monitor official weather alerts (NWS).
• Stay indoors; limit outdoor exposure.
• Dress in layers if outside; keep pets indoors.
• Use generators only outdoors; never use stoves/ovens for heat.
• Avoid travel; if stranded, stay with vehicle.

AFTER THE STORM:
• Check home for ice, pipe, or roof damage.
• Shovel snow carefully; avoid overexertion.
• Monitor updates for lingering extreme cold risks

The National Weather Service (NWS) issued a winter storm warning and watch for much of Michigan beginning last Thursday, November 28 and lasting through Thursday, December 05. The storm brought all-time daily record-breaking snow in some areas. The forecast for Wednesday through Thursday includes snow squalls, wind gusts, extreme cold temperatures and flash freezing across the state. Expect hazardous travel this evening into Thursday. Power outages are possible.
