Prematurity awareness day.
Every birth changes you. But that first one. That one changes you on a cellular level and My first baby came 9 weeks early.
She is now a thriving 20yo who is on her way to a masters in social work.
That month in the NICU. Recovering from a cesarean. It changed my world and made me passionate about education and options. About VBAC rights. Lowering risks. Trusting parents even If they are young and dont have a healthcare background.
I am so thankful for access to amazing NICUs and Neonatologists and all the Nurses who protect the most vulnerable.
I'm thankful for the OB who held my hand and encouraged me on the ambulance ride from the OB office to the Hospital and performed my surgery.
The compassionate Anesthesiologist who held my hand when I was alone on the operating table and pulled her mask down to reassure me with her whole face.
The Incredible Nurses who advocatedfor me and my baby.
I’m SO thankful for the one on one care of a midwife for the rest of my pregnancies and that using a midwife lowers your risk of premature delivery by 23%.
I’m thankful that I am on the other side as a Midwife now and get to be a part of the change.

One of my favorite things is going to the local high schools and talking about models of care, what normal birth looks like and Informed Choice!
Pretty confident I meet a couple future midwives every time.
These young people are smart and they have excellent questions. I wish I knew to ask those kinds of things when I was in high school!

Please don't be timing contractions that are more then 10 minutes apart. GO TO SLEEP!!! Missing that first night of sleep when you think labor is starting is so detrimental to getting the job done.

I’ve got a little Buddy who loves ninja turtles and I told him my favorite was Donatello because I’m a ninja too and trained on the bō staff.
Yesterday when I went to check on his baby sister he had a little gift waiting for me. My heart is full and my homevisit bag has never been safer.

Moms here is my #1 Pelvic Floor Secret for Birth.
Your pelvic floor isn’t just responsible for stretching during birth—it’s also a stabilizer for your pelvis and a support system for your pelvic organs.
When you’re in an upright or deep squat position, your pelvic floor has to stay engaged to keep you stable and support your organs, making it harder for it to fully relax and open for birth.
Here’s the secret: positions like hands-and-knees, side-lying, or supported forward-leaning allow your pelvic floor to relax, open and stretch for your baby.
Use these birth positions as you feel the urge to push, p**p, or see baby’s head emerging…also called second stage of labor.
By settling in a more relaxed position, the pelvic floor maybe be less likely to tear. You may also find the pushing phase to be more efficient, smoother, & more intuitive for moms who want to breathe baby out.
What position did you deliver baby in? Did you find one to be better for you than another?

When I was a pregnant mother, I really wanted someone who could care for my pregnancy and birth naturally while still answering my various medical concerns that would come up. That is the type of midwife I became. If I don’t know the reason something is happening during your pregnancy, I find out. I refer anything outside of my scope to a wonderful and supportive OB. All testing can also be acquired though our arrangement with him.
Our mission is to provide midwifery and doula care that is compassionate, warmhearted, respectful, and centered around your needs. We feel honored to be included in this special time in your life and will provide personal attention, nurturing, and gentle guidance, along with a little laughter, to create the optimal environment to birth your precious one into. Whether birthing in the hospital or at home, we are committed to providing evidence-based information so that you can make decisions that lead to a safe and joyous birth experience. Couples, making the transition into parenthood, need a lot of love and encouragement. It is our passion to provide that for those who entrust us with their care.
We believe that birth is different for each individual woman. Birth is a miracle, but not a medical miracle. What might be normal for one may not be normal for the other. We believe that each woman has a God given ability to find her own way to birth, and that her body will lead her in the right direction. We will get to know each other well during our hour long prenatals so that when your special day arrives, you’ll be surrounded by birth professionals that are also your friends.
For homebirth clients, you will birth in a calm, familiar environment that is free from strangers, time limits, and routine procedures. Your home environment is where you feel safe, supported, and in control. It is where you are able to follow your instincts. As long as you and your baby are doing well, there is no need to intervene. Most women birth easily on their own, but we do recognize there are times when assistance is necessary, and we offer our knowledge and guidance to help with those times. We have a good working relationship with doctors and hospitals when care is needed that is outside our scope of practice.
If you would prefer a hospital birth, our doula services include educating you on your options in childbirth, working with the father to provide comfort measures, protecting the birth environment of your choosing, and assistance with breastfeeding.
After meeting us in person, we hope that you will decide that we are the perfect team for your birth. In the event that we are not the right fit, we will gladly refer you to other doulas and midwives so that you can find someone that is perfect for you.
