Role/Position Definition:
The Patient Access Representative is responsible for accurately collecting and analyzing all required demographic, insurance, financial and clinical data elements necessary to register patients. Responsible for the provision of routine patient access activity to facilitate efficient operations, expeditious reimbursement and optimal consumer satisfaction and to promote teamwork. Responsible for furthering the mission of Surgeons Choice Medical Center while consistently demonstrating the hospital’s core values. Performs his/her duties in accordance with regulatory compliance requirements and the Hospital’s Code of Conduct.
Qualifications/Position Requirements:
Education/Experience:
• High School Diploma or G.E.D. required.
• At least two years of medical clerical experience preferred.
• Office experience in a healthcare setting preferred.
Licensure/Certification:
• BLS certification preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Proficient reading and writing skills.
• Proficient in computer usage (i.e. Windows-based operating system, Microsoft Office).
• Proficiency in the use of general office equipment (i.e. copier, facsimile, telephones).
• Proficient knowledge of Heath Information Systems.
• Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology.
• Strong communication, time management, organization, and customer service skills

Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assumes any and all clerical duties and responsibilities, as necessary.
• Assists in ordering and stocking clerical supplies.
• Assists in maintaining cost effectiveness by preventing waste of supplies.
• Develops and maintains a good working rapport with interdepartmental personnel as well as other department areas within the facility.
• Verifies necessary information (i.e. procedure, patient demographics and insurance coverage) and records in the electronic medical record, (i.e. CPSI).
• Updating demographic information, as needed.
• Identifying a source of payment, obtaining sufficient information to permit reimbursement, ensuring the information is complete and accurate and interfacing with insurers and members of the healthcare team.
• Verifies insurance benefits and/or referral and obtain pre-certification/authorization for diagnostic procedures.
• Ability to assess the patient’s financial status and coverage provisions prior to scheduling procedures and routinely communicates with manager/director regarding collection concerns, questionable coverage and benefits.
• May be required to do Charge Entry/Audit/Follow-up for all procedures performed at the unit/site.
• Collect copays and payments on accounts and post payments in EMR.
• Considers patient rights in performance of job duties and responsibilities.
• Interacts appropriately with various age groups.
• Accurately interprets age-specific patient responses to questions and instructions.
• Considers age-specific patient requirements when responding to emergency situations.
• Reviews forms for patient signature; obtains forms or signature(s) as required.
• Provides information to the patient's family in the waiting area according to facility policy.
• Monitors the reception and waiting areas.
• Coordinates reception area activities for effective communication throughout the facility.
• Answers telephone courteously.
• Receives and relays messages effectively.
• Contributes to the progress and development of the approved Quality Management Program.
• Prepares statistical reports as required.
• Maintains compliance with Surgeons Choice Medical Center’s policies, procedures and accrediting bodies.
• Communicates effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and co‑workers, with interactions being respectful and courteous.
• Keeps the office neat and orderly.
• Adheres to safety policies and procedures in performing job duties and responsibilities.

Role/Position Definition: Works within the Finance Department maintaining the general ledger and fixed asset system for a multiple location corporation. The position reports to the Controller and works closely with other members of the finance team at Surgeons Choice Medical Center.


Qualifications/Position Requirements:
1. Education/Experience
○ Bachelor’s degree in accounting required
○ 2 – 4 years of hospital experience highly preferred

2. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
○ Individual must have strong spreadsheet skills and general ledger experience, including extensive account reconciliation capabilities.
○ Ability to detect and avoid errors in preparing and reviewing financial reports
○ Ability to work and communicate effectively with all levels of management and staff
○ Must have strong analytical and problem-solving skills


Work Environment:

Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Prepares and posts journal entries to the general ledger.
2. Reconciles all general ledger accounts including bank reconciliations.
3. Assists in the preparation of schedules supporting the monthly financial statements and other financial reports as requested by upper management.
4. Analyzes financial statements and detailed expense reports to provide explanations of monthly variances.
5. Maintains the fixed asset system
6. Assists in the preparation of the year-end audit workpapers and the monthly internal workpapers.
7. Assists in the new system procedure and process implementation
8. Assists in preparation of 1099s to vendors
9. Demonstrates initiative and follow through which includes identification of all entries that require additional explanation and potential adjustment.
10. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department inter and intra departmentally to facilitate the department’s ability to meet its goals and objectives
11. Maintains HIPPA and other lawful practices

Responsibilities:
Under general supervision of the Director of Revenue Cycle Management, maintains and ensures that all insurances are validated and authorizations a acquired prior to claim submission to all payers. Uses standardized medical coding systems to transform patient symptoms, treatments, and diagnostic tests into codes. Assigns codes, submits claims, tracks payments, follows up with patients and insurance companies to ensure cash flow for the organization. Creates visits and claims for timely submission to all payer guidelines and uploads corresponding documents to the patients file. Any other related data entry assigned by the Director of Revenue Cycle Management as needed.
Qualifications/Position Requirements:
A. Education/Experience
• High School Diploma / GED required.
• Some hospital billing clerk or data entry experience required.
• Experienced with computers and/or medical software preferred.
• Surgical billing experience required.
B. Licensure/Certification
• Certified Medical Biller Certificate is a plus, but not a requirement
C. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Individual must have knowledge of UB04 and CMS 1500 claim forms.
• Knowledge of CPT, HCPCS, and ICD-10 coding required.
• Prior knowledge of medical billing software required.
• Excellent typing/keyboard skills and data entry required.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Under the general supervision of the billing manager/director, the billing clerk is responsible for data entry of reference lab accounts and claim creation, ensuring timely cash flow for the hospital.
• Update as needed any patient demographic and insurance information related to the process of clean claim submissions.
• Locate the patients consent form in e-mail sent with patient list.
• Create a new hospital visit for this date of service.
• Add provider, date of service, correct insurance and any other necessary patient data.
• Check the patient in and then discharge for correct date of service.
• Enter charge codes from the Infiniti log.
• Review entered information and click “done with chart review”.
• Enter provided diagnosis code under Medical Codes.
• Create claim for reference lab patient.
• Save paperwork from e-mails into Athena under patients account making sure to label each entry.
• Maintains and ensures that all nonbillable procedure codes are sent to the coder for correction prior to claim submission to all payers
• Maintain HIPPA and other lawful practices at all times.
• Makes sure their workloads are shifted and covered when a taking scheduled time so the claims still go out during the absence.
• Brings any issues delaying claim creation to the Director Revenue Cycle and Finance.
• Performs all other duties as assigned.
