Can your mental health cause skin issues?
May is mental health awareness month. Some skin conditions have a psychological aspect that should not be ignored. In fact, evidence suggests that in some people, psychological issues often intersect with skin physiology and treating both may offer the best chance for improvement. We often times get asked: "Can stress cause acne?"
The answer is not simple. Stress can increase the levels of a hormone called cortisol in the body which in turn can fluctuate other hormones that flare up acne. Stress can also result in a change of daily routine (not applying medications or taking care of your skin as directed).

MYTH: You don't need need to wear sunscreen on cloudy/rainy days
FACT: Despite the clouds being in the way, the UV radiation reaches the earths surface so it is important to apply SPF >30 on a daily basis with reapplication as directed on the packaging.

Poison ivy, oak, and sumac can cause an itchy, blistering rash after coming into contact with an oil called urushiol (oil that is found on the plants). In most people, it appears in a few hours to few weeks after contact. It typically goes away by itself but sometimes may need treatment.
