Please join us in giving a resounding round of applause to our remarkable volunteers from The Orchards at Southington for surpassing their record in assembling welcome care bags for our incoming youth and adult residents in our Connecticut residential programs!! 🎉🎉
Since March 2025, our dedicated senior volunteers, have been generously donating their time to prepare care bags filled with essential items, including shampoo, soap, deodorant, toothpaste, toothbrush, snacks, and towels. Each bag also contains a welcome card from our nonprofit and an inspiring message from other seniors at the assisted living facility.
Rachel Bender, The Orchards' Director of Activities/Recreational Therapy, coordinates 5 to 7 volunteers each month to assemble these welcome bags at our Southington office. Last month, they set a record assembling 100 bags in less than an hour. This month, the dynamic trio of Al, Jan, and Rachel excelled by producing 115 care bags for our male and female residence in just about 40 minutes! This is a remarkable milestone to celebrate!👏🏼
Volunteers Jan and Al (pictured left to right) have participated in every volunteer trip since March. Reflecting on their experiences, they express how rewarding and fulfilling this journey has been. Rachel (pictured on right) remarked that the act of assembling welcome care bags truly highlights a positive impact we're making in our community.
Thanks to the commitment of all of our volunteers from The Orchards and the generosity of the community in donating products and/or funds to purchase essentials, we have distributed nearly 900 welcome bags. Our staff presents these bags to new clients, complementing the warm welcome they receive upon entering our transitional programs and serving as a reminder of the caring community that supports them.
