🎶 Meet Alianna, MT-BC! 🎶

They hold a Bachelor of Music in Music Therapy with a minor in Psychology from Westfield State University, where they also served as Vice President of the Music Therapy Club and held leadership roles with NER-AMTAS.

🎶 Meet Mark Wickham, MA, MT-BC — Infinity’s Lead Student Supervisor! 🎶

We’re thrilled to introduce Mark Wickham, who leads and supports students and interns across Infinity’s four student programs. Alongside mentoring the next generation of music therapists, Mark provides music therapy services and lessons throughout Hartford County.

Mark is a Board-Certified Music Therapist and certified in Regulative Music Therapy. With a Master’s in Music Therapy from The University for the Arts (Berlin, Germany) and a Bachelor’s in Jazz Studies from SUNY Purchase College, Mark brings international training and a deep creative background to his work.

Since 2014, he has supported individuals across the mental healthcare continuum—from inpatient psychiatry to community-based recovery programs—using music to foster connection, healing, and growth. His approach is neuro-affirmative, person-centered, and resource-oriented, aligning beautifully with Infinity’s mission of providing flexible, individualized support.

Outside of clinical work, Mark is a seasoned songwriter and educator, fluent in English and German, and conversational in French. His primary instrument is bass, but he also brings guitar, voice, piano, and percussion into his clinical and educational practice.

✨ “That life-affirming perspective is what motivates me to share music with others in the context of healthcare to this day,” Mark says.

➡️ Join us in welcoming Mark to the Infinity community! If you’re a student or intern interested in learning from an experienced clinician and educator—or if you’re curious about music therapy services in Hartford County—connect with us today to learn more.

People with Down syndrome look more like their family than anyone else

People with Down syndrome often share certain physical traits, such as almond shaped eyes, a smaller nose bridge, low muscle tone, smaller ears, or shorter stature. However, just like everyone else, people with Down syndrome inherit their looks from their families and resemble their family members. They may have their dad's smile, their mom's eyes, or their grandparent's laugh, because Down syndrome is just one small part of who they are.

🌟 Ben is no exception! He definitely has his dad's grin and his mom's expressions, and when he and his brothers are together, there is no doubt they're family! ❤️ Ben has five older brothers and looks so much like them! Check out the resemblance in two of my favorite family photos, one from a few Christmases ago and another from this past Christmas. (One brother is missing from both photos, but when you have six kids, getting everyone in the same photo is basically a Christmas miracle! 😅)

(Thanks so much for sharing these pictures!!)

Down Syndrome Awareness!!
Day 3: A person can't have mild or severe Down syndrome.
They either have it or they don't. Ability is defined by the individual, not the diagnosis.

🌟 Ben shows us this every day. His abilities are defined by his determination, his sense of humor, and the unique way he connects with others. We always encourage others to presume Ben's competence over disability.

Today's photo shows Ben rock wall climbing at the DSSRI Summer Camp. It's a perfect example of how, when given the opportunity, he rises to the challenge and shows what he can do.

We also want to share a powerful video from the National Down Syndrome Society (NDSS). They launched a viral campaign called "Assume That I Can" which challenges people to presume that individuals with Down syndrome have the ability to do anything that people without Down syndrome can do.

💛 Day 2: Did you know there are THREE different types of Down syndrome?

Trisomy 21
• The most common type
• All cells in the body have an extra chromosome
• Accounts for about 95% of individuals with Down syndrome

Translocation
• Part of chromosome 21 becomes attached onto another chromosome
• Accounts for about 4% of individuals with Down syndrome

Mosaic
• The least common type
• Only some of the cells in the body have an extra chromosome
• Accounts for about 1% of individuals with Down Syndrome

🌟 Ben has Trisomy 21, the most common type. For him, it simply means an extra dose of determination, personality, and joy.
