Cold winter air holds less moisture, and indoor heating dries the air even more. This dries out the delicate lining inside the nose, making blood vessels more likely to crack and bleed. Add in colds, allergies, and frequent nose blowing - and nosebleeds become much more common this time of year.
π‘How to help prevent winter nosebleeds:
β’ Use a humidifier at home, especially in bedrooms.
β’ Apply nasal saline spray and/or a thin layer of nasal ointment such as Aquaphor to keep the nose moist.
β’ Encourage gentle nose blowing and avoid nose picking.
If nosebleeds are frequent, heavy, or hard to stop, an ENT evaluation can help identify the cause and prevent future episodes!
