Time takes on a whole new meaning when you learn you have less of it left. You become acutely aware of the significance of time, how precious it is, and how desperately you wish you had more of it.
But most of all, when our time with someone we love is being cut short, we realize, sometimes, that we wasted a lot of time… usually being angry, holding onto grudges and regret, or always assuming… we have more time.
Before my brother died we had not talked for several years because of an argument that in my opinion should never have happened. This became a wedge in our relationship and took on a life of its own, and one day there was no more “us.”
When I sat at his bedside day after day, all I wished for was more time. More time to be with him and his family, more time for us to make memories, and more time together.
When I was at his bedside, our fight didn’t matter. Who was right or who was wrong didn’t matter… none of that mattered. I desperately wanted more time. And if given more time, which I prayed for every single day, the first thing I would have done is let it all go.
Time is precious, fragile, and often limited. Use it wisely.
Don’t hold onto grudges and regret, it does no good being kept stored inside of you.
Savor the time you have with the people you love.
Make more memories, have more fun, love fiercely, and laugh often. Now!
Don’t waste time.
