At Northwest Specialty Hospital, we have some incredible team members who work closely with patients to ensure their road to rehab recovery is successful. We recently honored nurse Merrie for exemplifying connected care. Her nomination shared:

"There was a tough rehab patient who was a bilateral amputee who was having trouble transferring to the toilet with the nursing staff. Without hesitation, Merrie went to the patient's room with the nursing staff to assist with the transfer and to show the nursing staff how to properly transfer the patient. Although the patient was discouraged, Merrie took the time and effort to encourage the patient and motivate him to complete the transfer. It was not easy, but Merrie was very diligent and set boundaries with the patient, promoting independence and proper self-care. Merrie is amazing and we are so lucky to have her on our team, thanks Merrie!"

Job well done Merrie, we're so proud you're a part of our team!

We love it when people get behind new ideas, but when something is trending, it doesn’t always mean it’s necessary. Registered dietitian Janine helps us evaluate two newer trends – creatine and electrolytes.

💪 Creatine has been touted for muscle growth, brain health, and even strength building for those engaged in regular fitness. Pro tip: if you are working out casually, regular water and a balanced diet are really all you need.

⚡ Electrolytes have skyrocketed in popularity, and everyone loves a good flavor boost to their water. Pro tip: Be cautious of the levels of sodium in electrolytes. Over time, they can do more harm than good. Choose fruit or naturally flavored water instead.

At our annual award celebration for Northern Nevada Medical Center, we honored Siliva who works in our housekeeping department. She continually goes above and beyond in her role and is very deserving of the Northern Star Annual - Nonclinical award.

In her nomination from earlier in the year, a colleague stated, "You can always tell when Silvia cleans the ICU because she has great attention to detail. She anticipates needs without needing prompting. For example, she maintains our soap/hand sanitizer/paper towels supply. She shows great integrity through her quality work. Even on the busiest of days, she makes sure to thoroughly clean. In addition to being an exemplary employee, she is a great person who always has a positive attitude and genuinely cares about others. As a leader, Sylvia is a great example to her peers."

Thank you, Siliva, for being a shining star and recognizing the value of your role and its impact on our patients.

Cheers to Yuli on her recent honor as a Sierra Star employee! Here are a few sentiments that colleagues shared about her:

"Yuliana is a supervisor in our kitchen, but she is so much more than that! Yuli does everything in her power to make sure we have what we need to do our jobs successfully. If you ask Yuli to help you, she will stop what she is doing and take the time to help you; even if she isn't 100 percent sure how to do the task, she is willing to learn. She is a hands-on leader, and that makes a huge difference. Yuli makes sure patient care comes first and encourages our team to do the same. She will hop on the tray-line at any given time to help us get the patients fed in a timely manner and with the utmost accuracy.

"Whenever situations occur outside the norm of our daily kitchen, Yuli does what it takes to keep things running smoothly. Not too long ago, I tried to work through a migraine headache and when I could no longer do it, Yuli came back after working her 8-hour shift already to relieve me of my job so that I could take care of myself."

"I honestly do not know what we would do without Yuliana on our team. She is the best!"

Congratulations, Yuli, we're so proud you're a part of our team

🥗 Add veggies to sauces, whether blended or chopped
