Meet new team member Gretel, who works in ER admitting and is excited to grow in her role and support patients at this new location. Gretel ensures care moves efficiently behind the scenes while a patient is with a provider. Their attention to detail and coordination with other staff make the patient experience exceptional! As we continue to celebrate National Pharmacist Day, meet Keith, our pharmacy director at Northern Nevada Medical Center in Sparks. When patient safety matters, our Pharmacists bring trust to every patient interaction and their team of pharmacy techs are the icing on the cake.

We also gave Keith our pharmacy department quiz, and here's what he had to say.

What's one myth you can bust? A hospital pharmacy does not fill medications like an outpatient pharmacy. We only administer medications for hospital patients.

What's the busiest time of day at the pharmacy? The afternoon when surgeries are complete, the ER gets busier and some patients are discharging to home.

What's the hardest part of your job? The regulatory and compliance processes are the hardest. It requires a lot of diligence, continuous monitoring, and adherence to rigorous standards.

What part of your job makes the most impact? I really enjoy helping patients in the ICU. When we round, and learn their story, it's rewarding to be a small part of their healing journey.

Today we celebrate our pharmacists who make every dose count! 💊First up is Kevin, director of Pharmacy at Sierra Medical Center in Reno. We wanted to hear more about what it's like behind the scenes in a hospital pharmacy so naturally, we put some questions to the test.

What's one medication myth you wish patients knew? When a patient discharges, they often assume they will go home and take the same medications. You truly reboot your system after a hospital stay, and that may include a change to your medication.

What's something a patient will never see at a hospital Pharmacy? The sterile compounding process and how we make IV medications. It's a thorough, highly sterile environment, and we ensure safety compliance is our number one priority.

What's the hardest part of your job? Wearing multiple hats during the day. You often have to troubleshoot unexpected situations throughout the day and be able to jump into any role to support your staff.

And lastly, we asked Kevin the hardest question of the day...what medication advice would you give to your younger self. He shared, "Less is more."

Our new team at ER at North Valleys is made up of a lot of skilled professionals contributing to exceptional patient care. Meet Dr. Michael Kidon. He's a rockstar who joined our team seven years ago from Denver, CO., where he completed medical school. During that time, he met ER medical director, Travis Anderson, MD, who inspired him to join our health system. When asked how a freestanding emergency department contributes to better community care, he shared, "The FED model is a great resource for the community because care is available to anyone at any age. It also gives patients more options and is an efficient way to receive care."

Our staff go the extra mile when it comes to professional development and nurse leader, Kimberly Swetnika, surely did as she recently completed a certification in perianesthesia. She shared, "I pursued the CAPA (Certified Ambulatory Perianesthesia) certification to enhance my skills and knowledge in my field, ensuring I stay competitive and effective. It's important to me because it represents my commitment to professional growth and my passion for delivering the best results. I work in day surgery and also in PACU as a clinical supervisor."
