Spring is officially here!! With warmer weather comes more outside projects, maintenance, and activates. As a reminder your everyday perception glasses and sunglasses are not safety glasses. Safety glasses are made with your safety in mind.

Safety frames are made with a high impact resistant material with lightweight properties and side shields to protect from outside debris. Safety lenses are made with a pliable material that is not only breathable but shatter proof on impact.

When we think of safety frames we think of certain careers but they are also needed for yard work, house renovations, and extreme sports like mountain biking. A pair of safety frames are much cheaper than a trip to the ER.

Call Sparta Optometry today at 616-877-8811 for all your safety frame needs!

Screen Time Awareness refers to the practice of being mindful of how much time you spend looking at screens and taking steps to protect your eyes from potential strain or damage associated with excessive screen use. Often by utilizing features like blue light filtering lenses on glasses or adjusting screen settings to reduce glare and brightness can be beneficial.

The 20-20-20 rule is a recommendation to break up screen time by looking away from the screen every 20 minutes and focusing on something 20 feet away for 20 seconds. This helps prevent eye strain and headaches.

It is very important to be mindful of how much screen time you are getting each day. If you are straining or having visual concerns, please call our office!

February is Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD) and Low Vision Awareness Month.
What is AMD? AMD is the leading cause of blindness and vision loss in Americans over 65. Symptoms include difficulty reading, trouble seeing in dim light, or changes in color vision.
Peripheral vision may be normal, but central vision is affected.

Ways to control/help AMD : focus on lifestyle changes like quitting smoking, maintaining a healthy diet rich in leafy greens and omega-3 fatty acids, wearing sunglasses outdoors, and regularly getting comprehensive eye exams.

Did you know you should have an Eye Exam every 1-2 years ? It is important to have a full ocular health check every so often to keep up on the health of your eyes. Diabetic patients should be seen yearly. Eye exams can detect health issues like diabetes, high blood pressure, and even brain tumors. This is because the eyes provide a clear view of your blood vessels, arteries, and cranial nerve.

Rosacea is a long-term inflammatory skin condition that causes reddened skin and a rash, usually on the nose and cheeks. Which can cause direct eye discomfort such as a red, burning, dry, gritty, irritation feeling.

Dry Eye is a common condition that occurs when your tears aren't able to provide adequate lubrication for your eyes. Which causes irritation in eyes such as dry, gritty, scratching, red, burning, and/or excessive watering which a lot of patients are surprised that is actually a symptom of Dry eyes.

Do you suffer from Rosacea, Varicose Veins on the Face, Unwanted Facial Hair, or Dry Eye? If so, Sparta Optometry offers an OptiLight IPL (Intense Pulse Light) Treatment that can significantly reduce/eliminate your concerns.

For Dry Eye treatments are 4 treatments every 2 weeks apart. Then only once a year for maintenance treatment. Facial treatments including Rosacea, Varicose veins of face, and hair removal vary on severity and how well your skin responds to the treatments. Those treatments are 4 to 6 weeks apart.

This is Ky our Optical Manager preforming a Rosacea Treatment this morning for one of our patients. This is her 2nd Treatment with us.

If you are interested in knowing more about our OptiLight IPL (Intense Pulse Light) Treatment, please do not hesitate to call our office 616-887-8811 or email spartaoptometry@gmail.com today to get more information.
