Hey Kids, It’s Friday!
Cornelius Visits The Landings of Chestnut Grove
Cornelius Harnett went to visit The Landings, a place where older adults live and get help when they need it.
When Cornelius walked in the front doors, Mrs. JoAnne said hello and showed him around. He saw lots of friendly faces. At the front desk, he met Ms. Adalyn and Ms. Blaire. Then Mrs. Angela, the manager, welcomed him and introduced him to many residents.
Cornelius learned that the community helps people with daily care and fun activities. Soon, he heard laughter coming from down the hall. He followed the sound to the activity room.
There, residents were playing cards, making crafts, and getting ready for bingo. Cornelius even played bingo and won a couple of times! He also joined a fun trivia game.
Cornelius Harnett soon smelled something yummy cooking. He followed the delicious smell to the kitchen at The Landings of Chestnut Grove. There, he met Mr. Ricky and Ms. Stephanie. They were busy cooking pinto beans and cornbread for lunch. The food smelled warm and tasty!
Cornelius stayed and ate lunch with the residents. They talked, laughed, and enjoyed their meal together.
Before he left, Cornelius met many new friends and heard their stories. He can’t wait to come back and visit again. You can visit too and meet lots of people who are happy to share their stories and play bingo. So much fun! Everyone enjoyed his cheerful visit.
History Fun Fact:
The Landings opened in December 2021. The first resident came to live there in January 2022. Almost 100 years ago, in the 1920s, this land was a big farm. It had lots of cows and vegetables like corn, potatoes, and cabbage. The farm belonged to Silas and Lillie Nichols, who were both teachers at a school named the Wolf Branch School. They lived in a brick and stone house that still stands today.
Have a great weekend!
