With these very cold temperatures, it is important to keep livestock warm. Here are a few tips to help with that:

🍀Keep them eating. Internal heat from digestion will help keep them warm during these chilly days. High caloric foods help too!
🌾Dry bedding. Using straw in areas they sleep can help them keep their heat in. It is very important to use straw and NOT hay.
🥶Windbreaks. Give livestock an area to run in to get out of the wind and blowing snow.
💦Access to water. Ensuring they have clean, unfrozen water will help keep their digestive tract running and warm.
🐴Blankets. Horses, especially clipped or old ones, may benefit from a blanket to add an extra protective layer. However, most animals grow a thick winter coat to prepare for the cold winter temps.

Why are pets just now showing positive for tick borne diseases?
Because positive tests results are often delayed! Did you know that a tick that bit your pet in the fall might cause your pet to be positive for a tick borne disease now?

This is why we recommend testing even during the winter months.

Oliver wants to remind everyone that not all ice salt is safe for pets! ❄🌨
Some salts cause paw pad burns, irritation, and, if licked or ingested, can cause GI symptoms.
We recommend wiping paws🐾 after walks where salt is present and using pet-safe salt at home.
