With these very cold temperatures, it is important to keep livestock warm. Here are a few tips to help with that:
🍀Keep them eating. Internal heat from digestion will help keep them warm during these chilly days. High caloric foods help too!
🌾Dry bedding. Using straw in areas they sleep can help them keep their heat in. It is very important to use straw and NOT hay.
🥶Windbreaks. Give livestock an area to run in to get out of the wind and blowing snow.
💦Access to water. Ensuring they have clean, unfrozen water will help keep their digestive tract running and warm.
🐴Blankets. Horses, especially clipped or old ones, may benefit from a blanket to add an extra protective layer. However, most animals grow a thick winter coat to prepare for the cold winter temps.
