Georgie Stone, MSW, LCSW
Georgie Stone is a North Carolina Licensed Clinical Social Worker with fourteen years of clinical practice with individuals, families, children and groups. Georgie joined the practice of Capstone Wellness Center in May 2020. She is providing psychotherapy services to adults, families, couples and groups in the Elkin and Sparta offices of Capstone.
Georgie specializes in using evidence-based modalities for the treatment of mood disorders (depression, anxiety/panic, bi-polar disorder), unresolved trauma (PTSD, sexual, emotional and physical abuse), grief and loss, marital and family distress, coping with chronic/serious illness and life transition issues (empty-nest, caregiving, retirement, end of life). Stone has training and experience in Psychodynamic Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Play and Sand Tray Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Attachment Therapy, Group Therapy and Griefwork.
She takes an empowerment approach to therapy, together you will assess your strengths and obstacles to overcoming mental health challenges (evaluating mind, body, social and spiritual aspects of your life that may be impacting your current distress). She will provide a safe, non-judgmental therapeutic space and psycho-educational information to assist you in developing your own healthy lifestyle, wellness plan.
Mrs. Stone earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology from Lenoir-Rhyne University (1982) and a Masters of Social Work from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (1992). Her clinical experience is in Community Mental/Behavioral Health- (Catawba, Surry, Yadkin and Alleghany Counties), Hospice (Catawba, Forsyth, Surry Counties and Southwestern Virginia) and Department of Social Services/Family Services-Child and Adult Protective Services (Catawba County). Prior to earning Clinical Social Work Licensure (1995), she was a social worker for ten years in community non-profits developing family violence prevention programs (Catawba and Caldwell County) and in the Department of Social Service Child and Adult Protective Services (Catawba County).
