I have received a lot of questions regarding alternative community resources. Here are some great local options!
Lactation Consultants:
Currently, the only other practicing IBCLCs (Internationally Board Certified Lactation Consultant) in the region who I am aware of are located at Monument Health in Rapid City and Spearfish. I recommend working with IBCLCs for breastfeeding support. A lot of people are happy to call themselves a breastfeeding expert, but if that person has not trained directly under an IBCLC and received their IBCLC, there are likely large gaps in their education that even they may not be aware of (you wouldn't call a plumber or a physical therapist who told you that they trained themselves in plumbing after taking an online course. Online courses are not the same as completing 500-1,000 hours of breastfeeding support under an existing IBCLC).
Childbirth Classes:
I am excited to announce that Kristen Bowers will continue teaching a 6 week Lamaze Childbirth and Beyond class, now through Morningstar Midwifery and Women's Health. You can learn more at https://morningstarmidwifery.co/childbirth-education/, or contact Kristen directly at kristenbowers.a..com. Kristen spent 1 year with the BH Breastfeeding team, witnessed me teach the class 3 times and has taught this class 3 times herself. The curriculum remains the same.
Craniosacral Therapy:
For craniosacral therapy, I recommend Zoe Nelson. You can contact her at 612-581-2487. She has received her training through the same training program that myself and Katelyn Freidt (formerly with Sweet Willow) went through. You will be in good hands with her.
Mental Health Support
Another resource I wanted to make everyone aware of is a fantastic counselor, Carleen Mazour with Hope and Healing Mental Health. She specializes in motherhood, postpartum, and life transitions. She takes a holistic approach, looking at the whole person. You can call 605-484-8424 or learn more about her at https://www.hopeandhealingmentalhealth.com/.
