We are really excited about our Fiber & Fleece at Bear Butte Gardens event this Saturday, October 18th, 10 am to 2 pm! We have some amazing activities and vendors lined up!
Loren & Tayler Opstedahl will be doing sheep shearing demonstrations on our Icelandic flock and providing education to everyone in attendance based on their years of living the shearing circuit life. Loren has been chosen to be on the U.S. Shearing Team for the world competition this year in the hand blades division and will share information about that as well!
Crooked Fence Ranch out of Houghton, SD, will be in attendance as a vendor of their wool and other products. They will also have wool pellets available for sale for those who love to garden and want to try adding a natural moisture retention product to their gardens and/or houseplants.
Patty DeZeeuw of D&D Crop Service out of Elkton, SD, also sent us some samples of their wool pellets for giveaways during the Fiber & Fleece event and we are so thankful to Patty for adding some new product to the mix in the gardening realm.
Eliza Blue of Bison, SD, will be on hand to share some stories from her books, sell and sign her books, and also share some of her music with all of us.
Trish Jenkins of Cycle Farm, Spearfish, will be on hand to display her beautiful wool yarn that she spun and hand-dyed utilizing plants they grow on their farm right in Spearfish. Trish will talk with everyone about the plants she uses, how she prepares the dyes, and then actually dying the wool.
Chanda Knoof of Vintage Farmer, Boxelder, will have her amazing goat's milk soaps available for sale and can chat with everyone about how she makes the soap using milk from her own goats.
Ida Marie Snorteland will be on hand with wool fabric samples and clothing items made from wool to share information about the Make It With Wool program. Ida Marie is a long-time educator from the Spearfish area and many of us remember her from Lawrence County Extension.
Jaelyn Whaley from SDSU Extension Sheep program will be doing a cooking demonstration with Tammy Basel of Union Center. They will be cooking up lamb smash burgers for sampling.
Stacy from Kaylani's Gardens of Spearfish will be in attendance selling her delicious tamales, huckleberry lemonade, and individual cakes to keep everyone nourished.
Please join us! Wear your layers and be ready to learn about all things Fiber & Fleece!
