Its BULLSH!T 💩🤬... RANT ON, it takes me a lot to cuss but Im going to say this plainly: the Department of Education’s new rule removing Nurse Practitioners and nurses from the list of “professional degrees” is absolute BULLSH!T

I’m going to use my platform — indulge me for 30 seconds.

I have four nursing degrees — an Associate’s, a Bachelor’s, a Master’s, and a Doctorate in Nursing Practice — plus a nursing diploma. It has taken me years of education, clinical training, and tens of thousands of practice hours, and a whole pile of student loans to get where I am today.
--That’s what allows me to care for people the way I do and give my community an entire additional option for primary care.

I have full prescriptive authority, and I’ve spent 13 years as a fully independent, solo Nurse Practitioner in Iowa — a full practice authority state. I carry the same DEA responsibilities, liability, and patient-care accountability as any other prescribing provider.

And let’s be honest: some professions still on the “professional degree” list cannot prescribe, cannot diagnose medical conditions, and cannot manage complex multi-system problems.
This isn’t a dig at those professions — every field has its own expertise.
But if you earn a doctorate — I don’t care if it’s in underwater basket weaving — you should be recognized as a professional in your field.

Primary care offices, urgent cares, and hospitals rely on Nurse Practitioners and nurses every single day to keep care moving. And rural communities like Spencer would collapse without NPs filling the access gap.

And now the federal government has decided that my doctorate — and every nurse’s degree — is not a “professional degree”? Its pretty insulting.

This ruling affects all nurses, including Nurse Practitioners — It threatens access to the training required for advanced nursing practice, and it risks future insurance reimbursement and whether YOUR insurance will cover visits with a Nurse Practitioner.

Before anyone assumes this doesn’t affect them, imagine your community without Nurse Practitioners — especially when it already takes weeks or months to see a provider.

This isn’t just bad policy.
This is a threat to rural healthcare. If you made it to the end of this rant...thank you.

🎉 Spencer Healthcare & Wellness turns 13 today — Officially a teenager!

It rolls its eyes, keeps me up at night, costs me sleep, sanity, and savings…
and somehow still makes me proud. 😅💜

Thirteen years — nearly a third of my 40-year nursing career — poured into this little independent clinic.
The paint may still be drying and the to-do list never ends,
but the mission hasn’t changed: caring for people the way care should feel. 💜

I’m so thankful for every patient — and the whole families — who’ve been with me from the start,
and everyone who’s chosen me along the way.
Without you, I wouldn’t still be here. 💛
